Reassuring to hear you just got the tickets.  Going on 2nd December, so I'll take heart that it's OK that they haven't arrived yet!

Don't blame me, I didn't do it!

I'm going on Saturday. Make sure you get there at least an hour before showtime because they are checking IDs against the booking to prevent touting. ( not before time )

I was beginning to wonder if I would actually get my tickets. In August I was told that tickets would be sent out 1-2 weeks prior to the performance. I sent an email on 13 October asking if tickets had been sent yet and received the same reply about the 1-2 weeks prior to performance.

When they still hadn't turned up yesterday I sent another email and was told they would be posted to me that afternoon. That reply also contained an apology for any inconvenience which made me think there had been an error somewhere and that if I had not sent that email my tickets would never have been posted.

Tickets turned up this morning in the normal 1st class post. I thought they would probably need to be signed for but they didn't.

The tickets have the purchaser's name on them and you have to bring photo ID.

I have physical tickets for the very last show Sunday afternoon. The tickets came very quickly in UK post, but they were brought within days of going on sale.

My tickets for the first performance of Lazarus at The King's Cross Theatre on 25 October were booked, via LOVEtheatre.com, on 26 July.

LOVEtheatre.com repeatedly advised that tickets would be issued 1-2 weeks prior to performance. They weren't.

After contacting Lovetheatre.com on Friday 21 October my tickets were finally posted to me that afternoon and were received on Saturday 22 October.

Thanks for the tip Loanerofvoom. It was chaos!

I got there at 7.30 and there was a long, long queue of people. It moved towards the door pretty quickly but when you stepped into the foyer it was packed. Hardly surprising I suppose as they had the merchandise counter over on the right, the bar straight ahead of you, the toilets to the left of the bar and the two entrances to the auditorium on your immediate left. People were trying to get to and from all of these and it was quite a crush with one line crossing over another. To make matters worse, between the two entrances to the auditorium were some high tables with groups of people sitting at them. Not ideal placement.

I eventually got to my seat at 7.55pm. The place was about 2/3 full. At 8.00pm  Michael C. Hall wandered on stage, grabbed part of a curtain and lay down on the floor where he is supposed to be sleeping. He was totally ignored by the audience who were chatting, taking off their coats, getting settled and deciding if they had time to go and get another drink. It was hilarious.

Occasionally one of the staff would shout, "no photographs, no photographs".

Ten minutes later Michael C. Hall was still laying centre stage and things started to settle down but people continued making their way to their seats and chatting to friends. I worried that he might fall asleep for real. He can't have been happy.

The band were behind glass screens watching what was going on.

The show finally started at just before 8.15pm. Even then one or two people arrived later.

Although I wasn't keen on the Original Cast Recording album the show was terrific.

Amy Lennox as Elly and Michael Esper as Valentine were the stand-outs and Michael Esper's performance of Valentine's Day even drew applause from some of the audience. (It was quite subdued, half-hearted, "should we be applauding?" applause but applause nonetheless).

It all finished at 9.55pm with a large picture of DB shown on Newton's TV screen.

A lady behind me on the way out said she had seen the show in New York and wasn't very impressed with the King's Cross Theatre. Apparently, she couldn't see the stage very well from her seat.

On the way back to Euston Road I saw a man sitting with a white parrot on his knee. I'm sure David would have liked that.

Good summary Earlgrey. Was also there last night. Only thing worth adding, and it could have been my location in the theatre (row AZ). The line of view was awful and ended up being alike to a tennis match with heads swinging left and right and never a complete view of the stage being available - its something the theatre really needs to resolve. The play did feel a little overly long but that could have had more to do with the seating....

Yes, I heard a number of people complaining about the sightlines. You'd really expect a new theatre to have perfect sightlines for all audience members.

I was in Row L and could see everything perfectly. However, I am 6' 2".

There was a lady in front of me with her daughter, who could only have been about 11 or 12 and I doubt the daughter saw much of the show at all because the woman in front of her had her hair done up in a mini-beehive. Also, during one or two scenes I noticed the mother placed her hand over the child's eyes. That can't have helped!

The lady next to me kept moving around trying to get a good view and couldn't see anything of the floor action, of which there was quite a bit.

I think there'll be a lot more complaints about this.

It is interesting to hear about your experiences at the play, although I don't like the record, I would like to see the play. But unless they release a video I guess I wont get to see it.

I am curious to what merchandise they selling, are there anything interesting? I take it there are the obvious: a program, a poster and properly the soundtrack.

I imagine the play will be filmed at some point. Maybe the BBC will show it. I'd like to see a film made of it with Gary Oldman playing the part of Newton.

The merchandise was; cast recording on both CD and vinyl (black), a poster, a 28 page programme (13"x 9" ) and a T-shirt.

The posters were £5.00, the programmes £6.00 and the T-shirts £28.00. I can't remember how much the other stuff was.

There were A4 printouts on the counter as well that listed the cast, the songs, the band, the creative team and the production team. I asked for one of those and was given a handful.

If you bought your merchandise at the counter in the foyer you could have them put it in one of the white bags with LAZARUS stencilled on them. Bags were thick paper with twine type handles. There were two sizes, small (12" x 9 1/2" ) or large (16" x 12 1/2" ).

If you bought a programme off one of the programme sellers you did not get a bag.

The T-shirts are really nice. They are a greeny-grey colour and have LAZARUS and the little rocket on the front. Very soft 50% bamboo viscose, 50% organic cotton, " made in India in an ethically accredited wind powered factory". Seemed churlish not to buy one.

earlgrey, thank you for your very detailed list of the merchandise.

Gary Oldman would be cool for a filmed version. I have a hard time thinking that the wont film the stage version, not all theatre translate well to screen, but they could do a special TV version, who knows, but with the interest in Bowie I think something will happen.

Your list made me think of when I visited Bowie Is in Bologna, I was suprised to how litle merchandise there was, I had seen photos from the shop at the V&A with a lot more stuff. I bought a cpl of records, and I was given them in a generic white plastic bag, I thought it very strange that they didn't have something cool printed on them, but they off course wanted me to buy the expensive tote bag.

Thanks for that have to keep eyes open, that and a Blu Ray is all we'll get close to the real thing in NZ and would be a nice present for myself  :)

can't believe pricing you guys pay for books I'm buying from Fishpond in NZ they get from UK or USA freight included in pricing and are mostly I've bought 50 - 75% cheaper than NZ recommended retail, if a CD's about $15 it's about $10 cheaper, as long as I want to wait a few weeks for postage

Don't worry, once the script has been published every amateur drama group in the world will be putting on a performance. You'll be able to pop into any church hall or high school and see Lazarus for the next twenty years or so.

I'm particularly looking forward to the Bollywood remake!

I went last night. No trouble or mucking about at the door. The script book is now on sale & my view from row 'H' was superb. The main actress, Sophia Anne Caruso, is only in it until the 28th November, so try to see it before then. She is stunning. On another note, I popped along to take butchers at the Sotheby's exhibition, which is lovely.
