Hi all -- I posted this to the shoutbox too, but this might get more replies:

Has the full length / unedited version of "Omikron (New Angels of Promise)" ever been bootlegged? I'd never seen it shared on MWP, here, or anywhere. Anyway, I've recently gone through the effort of extracting a WAV of the full 4:43 version from my Dreamcast disc in very excellent quality (far better than the grainy Omikron compilations). I had no idea the full length song existed on the disc until this week and would love some help uploading to the Station if it's not already available here. I know I've been trying to track it down for years and figured others probably have as well! The only other reference I could find of this was a random YouTube video from 2013, which sent me down this rabbit hole to begin with.

The version on the 'hours...' bonus disc is not the Omikron game version. The chorus lyric is different. It goes 'suspicious minds' on 'hours...' while it goes 'omikron' in the game version. As far as I know the true Omikron versions of the songs were never released.

CosmicJive is correct, the 'hours...' bonus disc is inaccurate and has the wrong one, which is more like an early mix of the album version. The version featured in the game itself sounds very different and has the mentioned lyric change. Until now (seemingly), bootlegs have only included a shortened 2-or-so minute edit in grainy quality, since that's how it appears during the game's intro sequence.

That's where I'd like to come in, if the full length + better quality version I've extracted is indeed as new to others as it is to me. Is creating a new release here as simple as using the Upload Torrent form? I saw a thing somewhere about torrents only being accepted by verified uploaders, so I just wanted to be sure.

Sounds great this is definitely a quality upgrade! And as far as I can tell I never heard this bit of music. Then again it's been ages since I played the game. Love to hear some of the ambient pieces, like awaken II and the Fight songs in this quality too. Funny that the Dreamcast port used a higher quality audio than the PC version.

Right? I was blown away at how different the middle section sounds. The songs is clearly in its demo stage compared to the album version, but I actually prefer it!

Well, that's the thing. This one song was actually discovered as a raw audio track alongside the regular data tracks. It's the only one of its kind on the disc besides the standard "Do not play this Dreamcast disc in your CD player..." recording.

Inside the game data itself, the rest of the game's audio uses a proprietary version of the .ADP file format. According to my research so far, only a handful of Dreamcast games used something like this instead of a more standard format or approach. On top of that, it's apparently very difficult to convert with full quality perfectly represented, AND it's more likely than not that the developers compressed the audio before saving to this format to begin with (hence the grainy sound we're used to and probably for Dreamcast reasons).

So knowing all that, "New Angels of Promise" might be a one-off quality wise. On the other hand, this great sounding (albeit mono) boot exists with a comment by Ballhaus:

The Omikron version runs at 2:19 on the CD I have - yet Gary's above is 4:43.

I have 3 CD's of Omikron material:
1 - Journey To Omikron City (Eat A Peach)
2 - Omikron (The Nomad Soul) game soundtrack
3 - Omikron (The Dreamers) game soundtrack.
All are different tracklistings, and the only version of New Angels is the short one, on discs 1 & 2 above.

I believe this is because Omikron boots are made from in-game audio data, which are stored as regular files in various subdirectories. This particular track however, comes off the Dreamcast disc as a CD audio track and not a data file like the other music.
