Hi all -- Haven't had any luck in tracking down speed-corrected sources for certain rarities, so I've started making my own attempts.

The 2 worst offenders IMO are the so-called Buzz / Oak / Lower Third demos of "That's a Promise" and "Silly Boy Blue". The link below includes the "Forgotten Songs of..." sources as well as my updated versions. Happy to hear feedback from anyone interested. Speed was adjusted in Audacity, then some light EQ applied in Logic Pro.

My next victim might be the LA demo of "Hang on to Yourself"  :-@

Be VERY careful.
The best way to correct speed & pitch issues is not with Pitch & Time shifting tools as these will - I can guarantee this - introduce artifacts.
The best way is to load the project into your DAW and find something at the correct speed to use as a gold standard reference. THEN - if the source is playing out too slow, resample the audio to a lower sample rate but leave the project as it was - then play the resampled version and you will hear it is now playing faster and at a higher pitch.
This works in reverse for audio that is playing out too fast as well - increase the sample rate of the affected audio & play out at the lower rate.

This works best at 96k sample rates of course, and worst of all at 44.1kHz (because of Nyquist limit) - it is far, far better than using time stretching tools followed by pitch shifting tools.

This is excellent advice, thank you!

I was admittedly curious about whether artifacts would creep in, because Audacity's tool felt a bit too..."automated"? Sounds like those suspicions weren't just paranoia.

Hopefully over the weekend I can revisit these for another attempt using your suggestions. I'd love to get them sounding clean as possible. DNR is a whole other story though...

Sadly, using any stretching algorithm will introduce artefacts - this is guaranteed. If you can pick them up is another question altogether as to even describe how they sound is incredibly difficult to do but once you start to hear it, you cannot unhear it any longer.
SRC is the only way to travel for me. If downsampling then aliasing can be a thing, but it's effects can be minimized.
DNR is, as you say, a whole other story altogether.
