Hello all, a month ago i went through the two Dublin shows and the A Reality Tour album to find out whether or not there were any overdubs and which song came from what show.

Here are my findings:

Rebel Rebel: 2nd night
New Killer Star: 2nd night
Reality: 2nd night
Fame: 2nd night
Cactus: 2nd night
Sister Midnight: 2nd night (was only played that night)
Afraid: 2nd night (funnily enough the flub in the 2nd verse wasn't fixed, which wasn't there on the 1st night)
All The Young Dudes: you guessed it, 2nd night
Be My Wife: 2nd night
The Loneliest Guy: 2nd night
The Man Who Sold The World: 2nd night
Fantastic Voyage: 2nd night (only played on the 2nd night)
Hallo Spaceboy: 2nd night
Sunday: 2nd night
Under Pressure: 2nd night
Life On Mars: 2nd night
Battle For Britain: 2nd night
Ashes To Ashes: 2nd night, piano solo is overdubbed/flown-in from elsewhere (the audio does match the video, but both nights featured a synth solo instead)
The Motel: 1st night
Loving The Alien: 1st night
Never Get Old: 2nd night, but vocals on coda sound a bit suspicious (further comparison needs to be made)
Changes: 2nd night
I'm Afraid Of Americans: 2nd night
'Heroes': 2nd night
Bring Me The Disco King: 2nd night
Slip Away: 2nd night
Heathen: 2nd night
Five Years: 2nd night
Hang On To Yourself: 2nd night
Ziggy Stardust: 1st night

5.15 - The Angels Have Gone: 2nd night (only)
Breaking Glass: 2nd night (only)
China Girl: 2nd night
Days: 2nd night (only)
Fall Dog Bombs The Moon: 2nd night (only)

There may be a few more fixes/overdubs (the backing vocals seem pretty suspicious at times for instance), but so far i haven't gotten around to doing a closer analysis.

The live album does seem to be a mostly faithful representation of the second night.

The Man Who Sold The World always looked odd to me like out of synch will have to take another look.

That may be due to overdubbing, but of course it's also entirely possible they mixed footage.

It's pretty likely (and of course the video effects too may play a role here too).

What i find really weird is the piano solo during Ashes To Ashes though. WHERE did that come from? Did they actually film Mike overdubbing it or at least miming to the overdub and then put on that motion blur filter to hide it.

I hate the official video.  I wish they would remaster this in HD without all of the weird editing.  Something like the filmed portions we have seen of Isles of Wight (which also should be released in HD).

No joke. Also, we need an official DVD/Bluray (if anything exists in HD) of the Heathen tour. That one was even better than the Reality tour.

Count me in for Blu-ray versions in true HD - and by this I do not mean 25fps or 29.97fps as both of these are interlaced in Blu-ray because 1920x1080@25fps or 29.97fps progressive scan is simply not in the Blu-ray specs.
Everything these days really should be filmed at 24fps or if you want to overcrank for FX later in Post, use 48fps. Just please avoid 25fps and 29.97 because from film this will be screwed with. Classic example is the Ziggy gig at Hammersmith from '73. Filmed (actually on film) so must have been done at 24fps yet we have both NTSC and PAL versions which simply have to have been frame rate converted and that sucks. Not to mention it fucks around with the audio too. If you avoid screwing up the audio then you are either adding 1 or 6 frames per second and they are being generated from somewhere - either way it is not the same as what was filmed. Do it frame by frame (as modern software does - that's you, Alchemist HD and even in hardware with the gloriously expensive Snell & Wilcox boxes it is frame by frame, so 24fps to 25fps speeds things up by 4%. I know - I have these hardware boxes - 3 different ones, and none can do 25>24 or 24>25 any other way then to change the run time and therefore change the pitch & speed, which now means that either the audio is at the wrong speed and pitch or it has to also be fucked around with - timestretching & pitch shifting is 100% guaranteed to introduce artifacts.
Been there, tried that & it never, ever works.

The Reality tour has come in for a lot of stick - unfairly to my mind. No, it's not the same as the Heathen tour but this is A GOOD thing, not a bad one.

Official Bluray for the following would be nice: All these are pro shot footage that is known to exist (ie I have copies of the footage in varying quality)
Ziggy Hammersmith Odeon
Los Angeles Diamond Dogs (Alan Yentob filmed the whole show)
1996 Loreley Festival (a superb show)
1996 Phoenix festival
GQ Man Of The Year Awards 1997
Hours tour, Elysee Montmartre, Paris 99 (the whole  show, please)
Hours tour, London Astoria 99
New York Roseland Theatre 2000
NYC Live By Request (complete inc Soundchecks)
2002 L'Olympia, Paris (another cracking show including a DPL II surround stream)
2003 Trafic Musique, Canada

I could probably list a dozen more, if not 2 dozen but you guys & gals get the general idea
