So the 2 RSD releases have been announced.
Talk about underwhelmed, given this is the 50th anniversary of Ziggy and the way that Parlophone have almost totally ignored the 50th anniversary of 'Hunky Dory' (just a picture disc vinyl? Pur-leeze)

Anyway, without further ado, here are the 2 EP's for RSD 2022

1.
DAVID BOWIE - BRILLIANT ADVENTURE 4 TRACK E.P. (12” VINYL / CD) - ALL TRACKS PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACKLISTING:

SIDE 1:

1 - JOHNNY DOWNLOADER (AKA I’M AFRAID OF AMERICANS EARLY VERSION)

2 - I HAVE NOT BEEN TO OXFORD TOWN (ALTERNATIVE SINGLE MIX)

SIDE 2:

1 - A SMALL PLOT OF LAND (LIVE AT THE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, NEW YORK, 18th SEPTEMBER, 1995)

2 - MY DEATH (LIVE AT THE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, NEW YORK, 18th SEPTEMBER, 1995)

2.
The 6-track 10” vinyl and CD TOY E.P. (‘YOU’VE GOT IT MADE WITH ALL THE TOYS’) features the following...

~ ‘SHADOW MAN (VOCAL AND PIANO MIX)’, a previously unreleased alternative stripped back mix of the TOY album track.

~ Three tracks previously only available as streaming singles making their physical debut: ‘YOU’VE GOT A HABIT OF LEAVING’ (RADIO EDIT), ‘SILLY BOY BLUE’ (ALTERNATIVE ENDING MIX) and ‘CAN’T HELP THINKING ABOUT ME’ (LIVE MARK RADCLIFFE SHOW BBC RADIO 1 SESSION).

~ Live versions of ‘I DIG EVERYTHING’ and ‘THE LONDON BOYS’ recorded at the Glastonbury warm-up BowieNet show at the Roseland Ballroom, New York on 19th June, 2000.

SIDE 1 TRACK 2 AND SIDE 2 TRACKS 2 AND 3 ARE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED. ALL TRACKS ARE PREVIOUSLY UNAVAILABLE ON CD AND VINYL

SIDE 1:

1 - YOU’VE GOT A HABIT OF LEAVING (RADIO EDIT)

2 - SHADOW MAN (VOCAL AND PIANO MIX)

3 - SILLY BOY BLUE (ALTERNATIVE ENDING MIX)

SIDE 2:

1 - CAN’T HELP THINKING ABOUT ME (LIVE RADIO SESSION) (Mark Radcliffe Show 1999)

2 - I DIG EVERYTHING LIVE (LIVE) (Roseland Ballroom 2000)

3 - THE LONDON BOYS (LIVE) (Roseland Ballroom 2000)

Here are my thoughts, for what they are worth:
The live EP.
The 2 tracks from the Manhattan Ballroom I already have (indeed, I sent these to Mike Garson) although it will be nice to have them on Silver disc. The 2 tracks from Side A are fun to have too, but again why just a wee little EP when there is oh, so much still in the vaults?

Toy EP.
The unreleased material is all I will discuss as there is little point talking about the duplicates of already exising content (even though it is new to CD, I am again underwhelmed)
Shadow Man (Piano & Vocal) - again this has already leaked a while ago.
The Roseland Ballroom tracks - why not the complete show? Only reason I can think of is that these tracks are not officially recorded.....I guess we will have to wait & see there, but there are bootlegs of the 16th as well as the 19th of September, on the excellent 100PCB imprint and they sound superb. My guess is that these may well be them.....only time will tell.
Admittedly, the details state they were mixed by Pete Keppler at The Looking Glass studios, but why not release the whole damned concert? It is a superb performance if the bootleg is anything to go by (and with 100PCB you have a pretty damned good idea)

The whole Roseland show was just broadcast on Sirius XM. I really hope someone got a capture since it seems the best of the 2000 shows we have so far. They have it in professional quality, but aren't giving it to us for... reasons

The lack of a box set for Hunky Dory too, when truly expanded editions of each of the three albums have been released in recent years is insane. :(

I don't think it's a let down at all. I am pretty excited about the outside themed rsd. Especially the Bowie Garson tracks and looking forward to the early Im afraid of Americans and single mix of Oxford Town.

The Blackstar expanded edition goes back to a LA Reporter article.
YA super deluxe expanded should happen but I doubt it will.
Why give people what they want when bits here 'n' there cost more ?

There was an expanded Outside with 33 tracks over 2CD's.

The Bowie/Garson tracks have been around for a while now, even if Mike did not know about them until recently. For me, although I will add to my collection of official material I am still underwhelmed.

True, but they were lo res rips of Bowienet radio way back in 2000. To have these in proper quality is a treat. I for one am very happy the 90s are getting some love.

They sure are milking the Toy release. It was included in the recent Brilliant Adventure box then was released separately two months later... now three months after that we get this RSD EP.

And nothing beyond a picture disc for Hunky Dory ... it's crazy.

Which one do you mean ?
This has single versions that should have been on previous issues but are let out now to punt these EP's.
They are never gonna do definitive versions.

The 90s records are the only ones with expanded editions that don't contain any unreleased tracks. The bonus CDs only contain single b-sides(be it live tracks, non-album songs or remixes) or soundtrack exclusive releases. Unlike the 70s expanded releases (starting with Ryko) that contain actual 'vault material'.

For the 90s albums it wasn't until the online Is It Any Wonder EP that vault material from that era surfaced. Even Brilliant Adventure doesn't really contain anything new (the only new versions of songs were only included by mistake like the Little Wonder edit or We All Go Through).

In short the 90s records deserve more than any other Bowie records to get the expanded treatment with unreleased material.

Get Real was also on one of the non-japanese 2CD editions (there were 3 different 2CD editions that I know of).
It's obvious now (which was honestly not the case before reading the above) that by 'expanded editions' you mean 'including vault material' and maybe there really isn't anything that was not used as B-sides etc? I don't know.
All I can say is that none of the Era and post releases have really included any vault material at all. Even all the 'Gouster' tracks were out there officially if you knew where to look for them

Gouster was a con.
Mojo and all of them other overpriced magazines raved about it being an 'Unreleased Bowie Album'.
Those two words are everywhere about Toy too.
A gimmick for the non-completists to make them buy the box-set.
Young Americans deserves a deluxe set with all the known about extras.
And maybe the Ava Cherry, Lulu tracks too...or will that be on a companion EP released after everyone's already shelled out for it ?
 :P  :-@

I agree completely.
Calling it an 'unreleased album' was a bit steep - it would be akin to calling the proposed original Ziggy running order an 'unreleased album' too. Okay me being who I am (a pedant) has taken the best versions I have of all those tracks (NOT the 2012 Ray Staff 'remasters' either) and made my own 'Original Ziggy' set and slapped it on a DVD-Audio disc for personal enjoyment, with the released running order also included. I intend to add the 2003 remixes in both stereo & 5.1 too when I get a round tuit (must find a shop that sells those one day), but an unreleased Ziggy it ain't.

Gouster (so-called) would have been far more interesting if it had included the finished 'Lazer', but in all honesty all the tracks were available anyway :
John, I'm Only Dancing (Again) was on a 12" single.
Somebody Up There Likes Me almost certainly the 'unfinished mix' given a bit of added polish
It's Gonna Be Me (without Strings) was on the Ryko edition
Who Can I Be Now? was on the original Sound & Vision and the Ryko edition
Can You Hear Me? again I suspect it's an earlier version
Young Americans there was a 'non-album version' on the original S&V release.
Right along with 'Win' & 'Fascination' all were on the original Ryko edition in different versions & 'Fascination' also had an alternative mix to that. Oddly enough, the version of 'Fascination' on S&V could equally well have been used on 'Gouster' although why not do what The Prof has said above & do a proper, expanded version of YA with all the oddities, out-takes & variants is beyond me. The Bootleggers are making a fortune doing them (all YA sets sell out FAST)

So as you so rightly pointed out - nothing new really.

IF the Estate really wanted to re-sell the wheel again.
STS & YA, I'd love to see on two 45's.
Along with some official club mixes.
Not tacked on house=ified things but Tom Moulton/John Luongo type ones....  8)

There are some good things there, but it's definitely slim pickings compared to previous years.

Almost as if they've thrown the towel in, and resigned themselves to streaming royalties and 'trending' when Bowie gets mentioned in a film or whatever is the way forward...

:(
