hi! I took this handle when I was in my 20's so I could buy some bowie albums off Ebay.  Well,  I'm 45 now and, um, I guess a little less pretty.  Certainly less patient.  Anyway.  Still a massive Bowie fan.

I grew up in Arkansas, USA.  Starting about age 11 or 12, I remember seeing Ashes to Ashes, Space Oddity and Heroes on MTV.  At first I didn't pay that much notice, because Bowie wasn't big in my peer circles, but I did see Bowie a few times inbetween Censored and Duran Duran and Police videos.

Then summer of my 13th year, Let's Dance Came out and Bowie was on 24/7 on MTV and Friday Night Videos, and the older stuff also suddenly ramped up.    Even my mom started liking Bowie (and she still does!).  Around that time I discovered an amazingly cool show called NIGHT FLIGHT

on cable super late on the weekends which showed very offbeat stuff. Here I saw DJ, Look Back in Anger, Boys Keep Swinging and more of A2A and Heroes again along with Bill Hicks and student art films and the Ramones and films like The Man Who Fell to Earth, sometimes, and much more.

My 14th birthday I got 50 dollars from a relative and went straight to the mall and bought 4 Bowie records.  I *think* they were Low, Space Oddity, Hunky Dory (at the saleperson's insistence) and Ziggy Stardust.  All the rest were soon to follow!

Got the chance to see DB only once, so far, when I was living in Pittsburgh in 1995, the Outside tour with NIN. Like an idiot, I protested NIN because I hated them, so missed all the amazing stuff when Bowie came onstage.    Had no clue he was up there with NIN, and we arrived late on purpose. I had no idea about it until like a couple of years ago either, and boy was I mad at myself for a minute when I found out.

But it was a very good if short show - my girlfriend Becky Glaser and I danced like nutty teens- got some attention from DB himself as we were right on his eye level in the aisle, having snuck up front to the front section we had no seats - and mouthing and gesturing every word appropriately!  That was the Burgettstown show, it was not in Pgh proper, a bit of a drive out.

Have to explain that the attraction is not just "a girl thing" for bowie, either.  It goes way beyond a celebrity crush or what have you.  It's all about the music.  I'm a singer, or was, anyway (opera voice major in college, the first major, uncompleted....).  What a superb voice.  His writing is so inventive and each song, each album so different that I don't think I could ever get tired of it.  Whatever mood i'm in, there's always a Bowie album to match it.

glad to meet up with all you guys. And it seems you all are guys here.

Any women here??

best, Liora in Beijing

There are at least a couple to my knowledge. Could always have some more.

Hi Liora,

I really enjoyed to read your story.

And I think you are right, BowieStation is mainly a club of (elder) guys (me included). But ok, Bowie himslef isn't the youngest anymore.

But I also know that there are some girls around on the tracker.

Welcome Liora!

There are other females here too, but many that do not tell that they are in a site dominated by older men...

Current statistics of all users:

Male: 796
Female: 60
Not selected: 29

But it all depends that people registered correctly. E.g. we have 12 users aged 84-136, and I don't believe that is totally correct...

Jan Erik

sadly I think that choosing "female" is the default choice for any fellow wanting to hide their identity, so who knows if there are actually 60 chicks here....

You might be right, but it could also be the other way around. This is what life makes so interesting.

Hmmmm, gender identity issues on a Bowie Forum, who'd've thunk it?

News Media in Australia recently prompted to complete an online reader survey to which I provided a whole bunch of incorrect inconsistent information to corrupt their data gathering. There, I was a 23 year old female. (Not quite the right age or gender).

Very nice to have you here, spyprettygirl. I believe you see me through your window.  :D

It was the first concert I ever saw and, for a 16 year old, it was absolutely fantastic, a mind blowing experience! So much so I had to try and see it again and so managed to get a ticket for his last night at Wembley. 1978 was 'nice' but didn't have the same edge to it. As for the 83 and 87 concerts, compared to the ones I saw there was no comparison for me I'm afraid! Still a lot of people liked them which id perfectly fine.

Hi Liora, and another female here too!  :D
I remember you from MWP! And I recall there we had very few females too, so it must be a characteristic of music torrent sites, for this doesn't happen in Bowie FB groups.
