Hello all! Just wanted to make a quick inquiry (as I might soon be revamping and reduxing an old project of mine) in regards to the performance of "Fame" on the Cher show in 1975. So basically I'm just after the absolute highest quality version available. There's some great, albeit extremely brief, HD excerpts in The Last Five Years, and we have Nacho's great restoration.

So is there possibly another recent broadcast or new source for an even higher quality transfer? Thanks in advance xxtyler

I'm also curious if we ever got a GOOD quality transfer of "Stay" from Dinah Shore '76

The Cher show has been released officially so I would say that will be the best, I may have it not sure, will let you know.

Yeah, this was the only official release I was able to find, and unfortunately apparently no Bowie included anywhere  :(

It is available on a 10 DVD set directly from her store online.
I HAVE asked card-carrying 'Cher Fans' for a rip of JUST THAT DISC and...
Guess what the answer was ?

BUY IT YOURSELF

Interesting…well I looked on the official website and there’s a “Cherflix” feature so I paid the $5 on Patreon to check that out. I’ll report back with my findings.

Ok so I'm glad I only shelled out $5 on betting on this because it is NOT what I was hoping it'd be. They have a handful of full episodes inside that look to be in decent quality but of course...no Bowie. There was a 2-DVD set I was able to download, but it's a fan-made DVD-R set of the VH1 re-broadcasts. In the "musical performances" section they have "Can You Hear Me" but it's Nacho's restoration. So...that's that.

When "The Best of Cher" DVD release was announced, I found some articles saying Bowie's performance included in the DVD.

But there is no Bowie's performance.
I wonder Bowie's performance was omitted at the last moment before release.

Here is discogs's information.

I feel like I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that Bowie wasn’t too happy in later years with that “Fame” performance for some reason, and I know the Soul Train lip-synch has been used a lot before as the official “music video.” But I always really liked the Cher performance myself.

I'm sure Harry Maslin said he found the instrumentals they'd to make for the show.
There was a 10 disc something from either Time Life & or her online store...
but I can't see it no more.
That was meant to have the Bowie episode on it.
AFAI thought ?
The funny thing is = reading about ABBA was that in many an article it said America didn't quite fall in love with them.
Her bunging out ABBA covers albums was no surprise.
I wonder who she'll 'do' next ?

:-@

I've looked for higher def copies and there is what there is.

She did share the medley or Can you Hear Me on her twitter feed a few years back I seem to recall - think it linked to a video on her official youtube channel. It was the medley or Can You Hear Me - or both - but it only had the sound in one channel. Think this 'release' of it was discussed on Bowie Wonderworld at the time too?

Yeah the "Young Americans" medley used to be on her official YouTube channel and luckily Nacho was able to grab that and fix the audio and make it up super nice. It's a shame they've never officially shared at least "Can You Hear Me" too

All I have from the whole 'Cher' thing is the following:

1. Young Americans Songbook Medley (audio only)
Young Americans/Song Sung Blue/One/Da Doo Ron Ron/Wedding Bell Blues/Maybe Baby/Day Tripper/Blue Moon/Only You (And You Alone)/Temptation/Ain't No Sunshine/Young Blood/Young Americans (reprise)

2. Young Americans Songbook Medley (video)

3. Can You Hear Me? (video)

4. Fame (video)

The first audio track is on the 5CD/DVD set only (as far as I know) and the 3 video tracks are on the same 5CD/DVD set (Can You Hear Me? is a duet along with the YA Songbook) as well as the 'Can You Hear Me Call? 2CD/DVD set.

Oh wow, I’d forgotten about that set. How would you rate the quality of those video tracks on the DVD?
