If you are into the day to day detail of his life the, for me anyway, Any Day Now David Bowie The London Years: 1947-1974 by Kevin Cann is a must. Really detailed analysis on what he did in that period.

I have also borrowed this weekend from our local library "The Man Who Sold The World" by Peter cDoggett and "Starman" by Paul Trynka. I'll let you know what they're like when I've read them.

just finished "Life on tour with David Bowie - We Can Be Heroes" Sean Mayes. Nice read and a tantalising glimpse of what could have been had Sean lived to see it published. Some great anecdotes, and Sean comes across as a nice guy. If your after an easy, personal account of the '78 (ISOLAR II)tour it's a good choice imho (and you should be able to pick it up cheaply.

Nicholas Pegg's The Complete David Bowie is a great read, especially the latter section of song description/analysis.
