I'm not that excited about this new box, though I know there is material I love on it. It's the buying it all over again that makes me sigh. I know there are a handful of rare tracks, but some of the non album tracks I've heard (No Plan for example) didn't do so much for me.

Then again, I loved and love 'So She' and got pilloried for saying so by someone on BWW way back. :)

Will see how much it costs and my finances at the time ...

no one has a gun
but
i now own 'the blue one'
so
i'll probably get this too
he says in a room with no carpets

remember
they only said 'unlikely' about the promo remix of Starman
yet
Lou Reed 'allowed' a similar 'Is it okay to like Dancey Bowie' remix of Satellite of Love.
To be an official single.
What's the big deal ?

"Luther Vandross singing A Bowie Song over The Wrong Music !"
yeah
'last one'

have made it tempting but the Montreux gig that most of us already have through the torrents on this great site (and which probably won't be in any better sound quality on this release) just isn't enough to warrant a purchase.

I hope it's better. The mix is flat and insipid. Hope they fix that.

The Berlin Show was miles better, Bowie was certainly more energetic.

And id they wanted the Low track. the London Meltdown was better too...

The Estate have a marvellous knack of releasing bootlegs as official albums and choosing the least good available shows....

nope, except possible the mid 60s.

that's an absurd take.

With Bowie's penchant for laying down a vocal in just one or two takes there just isn't as much rare studio material as with other artists.

I thought that was how he worked.

Just listened to an interview with the sound engineer for Dancing In The Streets and Absolute Beginners and the Bowie Impersonates tape. (the  interview video on Youtube).

For Dancing....Jagger did two takes, and the first was used.

Bowie sang a line at a time, stopped, listened back, sang another line, and so on.

Then used the same method for Absolute Beginners, stopping every line to check his demo version against the studio version....

This is so at odds with what every other producer has stated (the one-take, live straight through Bowie) one must wonder what was going on at the time?

I wouldn't say it was a lie.

Visconti, Ken Scott, Hugh Padgham, Tony Sales have all said that Bowie was a one or two take singer. They have no reason to all (independently) lie.

However, it seems that on occasion he would be the complete opposite.

hi 'i'

Donna Summer was 'famous' for this one take malarkey too
she'd spend ages gossiping - apparently - and then remember - ah i'm supposed to sing something - and off she'd go
Pete Bellotte has said

"My job is to lie to you."

Some People seem to think this approach is proof of how GR8 A Singer they were
Carly Simon said she did 80+ takes of You're So Vain
and the song we heard was pieced together from all of them

is she crap ?
No

:-@

Yep. I expect his approach varied, that's all.

I also expect he practiced a lot, sometimes away from the studio. People who write their songs - or at least the vocal melody (we know he had help from musicians on some chords etc) - have a very good idea in their head of how the song goes, unlike a singer who did not write it. I have seen that in person.

there's an online article that basically sh^ts itself because at one point in time
She Can Do That 'could' have been his last song released

the reason they release New Albums with 'bootleg titles' is simple
that official release
swamps out most coverage online of said bootlegs
