As is in the forum thread title, why did he never perform this song again? This article is an excellent write up by Bowie on some of his favourite songs (some quite surprising), which mentions Sweet Thing, but he never explains why...

"For no clear reason (what's new?) I stopped singing this song around the mid-Seventies."

This is one of my favorites from diamond dogs and 'David Live' - maybe he thought it's too long to comfortably fit in his later sets. Not sure, and neither is he.
Another vastly under-rated song on diamond dogs, or any other Bowie album, is 'we are the dead'.
Never performed live, what a shame.

To perform the song anything like the studio version required pretty demanding vocal gymnastics [even for DB]. That may be the reason [similar to the rarity of Golden Years perfs]

Well Bowie didn't perform it after 1974 but in a gig Tony Visconti did a few years ago with special guests Sweet Thing was performed by who I don't know but it was played among other Bowie tracks.

I think it was billed as "The Tony Visconti Band" in New York 22-06-2002

Tracks included
New Career in a New town
Boys Keep Swinging
Girls [T Rex]
Black Country Rock
Jet [Wings]
Wild Eyed Boy
Lifes a Gas
Conversation Piece
A Moody Blues song
Sweet Thing
Get It On [T Rex]

Kirsty Young sings on some tracks

Thats all I know about it whether a tape exists I don't know
