So as I said, which of the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour bootlegs on here are as good as David Live or A Portrait in flesh? I care most about sound quality, the performance of course will be just great. Even if the performance is awful it'd be nice to hear.

Yeah A Portrait in Flesh (19740905 Universal Amphitheatre, Los Angeles) _is_ the best document of the tour. Better than David Live too.

Can you imagine a band today playing for seven nights in a row at the same venue like that? Amazing.

Chances are good that the 5th was not the only night recorded - there would have been at least one "practice run", recording one of the earlier nights.

Well, I like the official album more than the LA soundboard. LA is sedate. I like it, but Bowie was better in Philadelphia, I think

Bowie is more mellow. His voice is relaxed - sedate like Erik says. In contrast on David Live his voice sounds a bit shrill, like he's tense. I'm not saying the recording itself is better - the vocals are clear but the band is a bit distant, but its a bootleg what can you do. If there's an ever an official release I'm sure it will reveal better sound.
