Does anybody on here have this particular bootleg ?? I was just wondering if it was any better than what we already have here.

There were rumors about a better tape being around with more chat on it just wondering if this was it.

BOWIE AND HUTCH THE 1969 REVOX TAPE

Almost 30 years ago a 9 track LP was released which was at the time the most important David Bowie studio bootleg since the 1983 Little Toy Soldier LP. Re-issued many many times but all missing a 10th track (Lover To The Dawn) and some tracks out of tune. Now you can hear the complete 10 track demo tape, cleaned up and with the out of tune tracks in tune.

Recorded in February 1969 at Davids Flat, 22 Clareville Grove, South Kensington, London, UK.

David Bowie - Vocals, Guitar and Stylophone
John “Hutch” Hutchinson - Vocals and Guitar

SIDE A

1 Introduction
2 Space Oddity
3 Janine
4 An Occasional Dream
5 Conversation Piece
6 Ching-A-Ling Song

SIDE B

1 Im not Quite (Letter To Hermione)
2 Love Song
3 When Im Five
4 Life Is a Circus
5 Lover To The Dawn (Cygnet Committee)

500 numbered copies LP, BRONZE vinyl. Outersleeve with printed inner bag.

I doubt that it sounds better than what is already out there, but I would like a nice surprise  :D

I hope the source isn't the "Jimmy Shelter Remaster" that we can find on the recent 4 CD box "The Ballad Of A Thin Man"...

Strangely there's another very recent pressing of this vinyl bootleg:

https://www.discogs.com/David-Bowie-Secret-Memories/release/8782224

Again it's a nice package; coloured vinyl, fancy sleeve, picture inserts...

To my (untrained) ear both these new LPs sound very similar (if not the same) as one another. They are certainly better than the earlier vinyl releases however I haven't listend to the torrents available here so I can't compare to them.

My version is here:
http://www.bowiestation.com/TT2//torrents-details.php?id=142&hit=1

It would be interesting to know if that was it or not.

I was left with the impression that the demos probably did come from a single tape originally, but had come down to us in three parts through different routes. The latter parts especially have suffered a lot on the way, and an earlier gen tape would be fascinating.

I notice though that the one on discogs says "from a remastered new unreleased tape",
yet the other one doesn't. If it was indeed a new tape then I would have expected them to have been boasting about it.

With it having recently being released on the "Ballad" set (apparently, haven't heard it), I suspect that they are probably all the same though.

Those tracks are in the wrong order. The full version places Lover To The Dawn in the right place. Circulating versions are taken from an LP acetate (copied to tape).

These are all identifiable because the intro to the tape is cut at the beginning. The missing part goes like this:

"Hello Bob. Uh, Calvin told us that you..."

and then continues with the circulating:

"...probably wanted a tape..."

By "The full version" do you mean one of these new releases or something else?
Or, more to the point, where would we find the full version?

I don't have either of those vinyl releases, I'm afraid.

The full version of this recording has more dialogue and a false start on one of the songs.
