I have been slowly going through the box sets and I'm now up to ANCIANT. Yes, the spoilers alerted me to the volume drop in "Heroes" and I must admit to acquiring a replacement CD before I had even heard the faulty one. This act of sacrilege on Parlophone's part seems to have overshadowed the other mistakes in this set.

Last night I settled down with a beer and slipped the 4 track "Heroes" EP into the CD player (yes, actual hardware is used in my house). I was appalled. Why???

Track one (Heroes/Helden)- For all I can hear this is a rather muddy, almost mono master of the track, the swooshing briefcase synthi parts sitting still in the audio landscape.

Track two (Helden) - Hurrah! At last the 89 remix is not used this time. However, this sounds like a shabby edit of the previous track which lingers during the fade-out and goes into the guitar bridge of "we're nothing...", which was never on the original 7inch single.

Track three (Heroes/Heros) - No way is this from the original master of the French LP. Listen to where the French lyrics start, there is an audible dropout where the two tracks have been edited together.

Track four (Heros) - see track two above, except the 89 remix bit.

I'm no audiophile, in fact I can't stand the whinging Shoffman of this world, bleating on about brickwalling and how their ears are better than mine. I'm a fan of music; music that I have been listening to, in the case of Heroes, for over forty years. I just can't help but feeling, in this age where people listen to music on a crappy speaker on their phone, the powers that be think we should put up with anything that sounds remotely better than that.

Any opinions?

Just received my replacement today, very disappointed. I think they should have also included a live recording or even better some outtakes from that year in way of compensation.

Still waiting on my replacement vinyl & CD - did get the HD download though.
I agree on the Heroes EP - I have far better needledrops from the old "12" Super Sound" releases.
