Hello to everyone. I'd like some advice. I recorded over 100 songs in the 90's and they are on cassette tape and mostly recorded in the moment. Some of my friends have asked me if I'd release some of them on CD or other formats etc... The question is, can anyone recommend some software or point me in the right direction to make them sound more audible for a modern listener. Thank you as always      :)
N:B I'm not doing this for any financial gain, I only want to make them available as a part of my history and or legacy.

Audacity is another. I personally use Soundforge 12 Pro.

Look through some of the remasters on the site and read the info about them.

There's a free version of Samplitude somewhere in the web called Samplitude Silver.
This is a stripped down version of the Pro software but has the main features like Equalizing, speed and pithch correction etc.
For me besides Magix Audio & Cleaning Lab (which is from the same supplier) the best and easiest to handle software for remastering

It doesn't really matter what package you use - they are all much alike really.
What matters is the additional extras, like analogue outboard or high quality plugins if working fully In The Box. For example, I personally use Nuendo but there is no need and you can pick up a good DAW for almost nothing (Reaper comes immediately to mind here) - it will be the plugins you use that make the difference.

My recommendations would be
Universal Audio - downside is these are all DSP, and require hardware to run. Upside is they have never been hacked.
Waves - make some great tools
Plugin Alliance - again some superb stuff.
Softube - the only place you can get the legendary Weiss Mastering Box as a plugin (2nd hand hardware units, if you can find one for sale, are literally thousands & thousands of dollars/pounds)
Sonnox - a superb range of tools
Eventide - more for mix than mastering but they have some unique mastering tools.

It is all down to your budget at the end of the day. Happy to make recommendations though

What was that software suggested to adjust pitch?  It was mentioned in the shoutbox a while back.  Thanks!  Update: never mind, I found it.

The best for pitch adjustments is Celemony Melodyne.
Watch out for the formants here though, and be aware pitch shifting leaves artifacts every time - this is unavoidable. Why do you need to pitch shift in the first place? It's not usually part of mastering.
