Having just come across a YouTube video I hadn't seen before today, I wondered if anyone had any news on these auction lots? Who purchased them? Will we ever see an official release? Is there more out there? Thanks

You buy the tapes but not the copy rights. So no official release

Could the new owner not arrange for the record label to release them?

No because the owner of the tape still doesn't own the copyright. Keep in mind these aren't even master tapes or anything. It's essentially the equivalent of owning a very expensive CD. Just because you have the CD doesn't mean you can legally copy and distribute it etc.

That said, it's unclear whether any of the older recordings from the tapes Omega sold (1969 and earlier) have fallen under public domain. I imagine the better known recordings (such as the Deram studio sessions) would certainly have been extended. The mid-60s demos that surfaced in January however (How Can I Forget You, I Live In Dreams, It's My True Love), seemed to have been previously unknown to just about everyone so there is a chance potentially-maybe-possibly that they slipped under the radar and the owner of that tape can, in theory, distribute unofficial EPs of the material with ease but I wouldn't hold your breath.

It would be somewhat surprising if the new owner spent his or her cash out of the goodness of her/his own heart, just in order to share the songs with the public at large.  Anticipate new dust gathering in a heavy layer on top of the tape box(es)...

Don't blame me, I didn't do it!
