Let this be a warning to me too - got 3Tb here to get backed up!!

I've got mine spread over 5-6 HDD and a 6TB drive with most backed up as ZIP filesSteveboy

About to back everything up here to LTO just in case, which has a minimum lifespan of 20 years and probably longer, plus all newer versions of LTO are designed to be fully backwards compatible with the older ones so obsolescence will not be an issue here.
I am also backing up a third time to an external 8GB (you actually get 7.2 when formatted) Buffalo Hub Drive, and have checked this and it works via my Oppo BDP-105 Blu-ray/DVD/CD player flawlessly and as the HDD is powered, I get no dropouts even when playing 5.1 at 24/96 resolution (tested this yesterday) so Backups R Us.
All are in folders, and playable tagged FLAC files so should be fine & dandy.

It's a good thing this subject has come up though, as given the dominance of file based media these days and it's enormous fragility this is a very important subject.

@StuartReed.
It is vitally important to be certain Write Caching is properly disabled, otherwise it can - especially with Windows 10 where is is ON by default - easily happen that even though you think you have finished copying files the system has actually not completed the job. This bit me - HARD - when we sent a DDP image for a DVD-Audio release to the factory for replication and their copy off my physical delivery was incomplete. They actually pressed the discs even though they should not have done so and as the copy had not been completed, all copies were fatally flawed.

With both Mac OS and Linux, never, EVER yank the wire - always eject media first.

Found out today that my external hard drive has for some reason been formatted by my laptop. It had all the Bowie shows, videos, interviews I had as I thought it would be safer to save on a separate device. Not a happy bunny   :-(

This happens much more often than most people realise.
If stuff is on an HDD, you need 2 different versions.

Is there anything I can help with?
