I've been unable to get uTorrent 1.8.8 to connect to BS for a few weeks now.
Worked fine last year but now nothing.

The last BS update won't let my version of Safari 10.1.2 establish a secure connection, so I switched to firefox 73.0.1 and now I can connect and post but the torrent files I download do not make a connection.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

BS has been using TLS 1.2 for some time now. What's the error message you're getting in uTorrent? If you're still running it on Windows XP, have a look at this post.
Regarding Safari, it's supposed to support TLS 1.2, so I have no idea what might be wrong off the top of my head.

After some googling:

https://blog.utorrent.com/2019/08/01/important-mac-users-will-be-automatically-upgraded-to-%C2%B5torrent-web-for-mac-os-catalina-v10-15/

uTorrent classic do not work with the lastest MacOS version. All versions up to 1.8.7 will be automatically moved to a web-based solution. The version you are running 1.8.8 looks like it is a beta version, that they didn't include in the upgrade, and therefore will not work.

When it comes to Safari, there might be that SSL/TLS is turned off in the settings/configuration. If you are using an older version of MacOS, it might be that uTorrent uses Safaris settings.

There was a similar case some years ago while one person complained that the site didn't work with his beloved IE on Windows, but worked on other browsers. He also had problems with the torrrent client (probably uTorrent). The problem was due to all SSL in IE had been turned off, and the torrent client used IEs SSL settings.

Does Safari work with other sites with SSL?

I have no Mac experience myself, and I do not have access to a Mac to do testing.

Jan Erik

Followed these instructions:

https://www.ssl.com/how-to/turn-off-ssl-3-0-and-tls-1-0-in-your-browser/

Back in business.

Wait. Nope. Not completely.

Particularly THIS set:

https://www.bowiestation.com/torrents-details.php?id=1872

will not connect. Now that's an old set, for sure. New torrent files download the torrent and connect, but old ones or maybe just this one, download the torrent file but won't connect. So...

How do we go about making old torrent files into new ones?!

It sounds like that you might not be connected to the BS tracker at all.
Do you see the newer torrents as connected or just downloading?

On the newer torrents there are likely more seeders and the chance for one of them having DHT enabled is bigger. That is basically that you download without being connected to the tracker just as with magnet-links that you can find on various torrent sites.

All Bowie torrents on site are seeded 24/7 so you should be able to download all old torrents as well.

A couple of things that might cause the problem:

- Your ISP is blocking the ports your torrent client uses. Try changing it to 10000+
- The torrent client still has SSL disabled
- Newer versions of uTorrent have caused a lot of strange errors on private torrent sites. All those problems vanished when people downgraded to uTorrent 2.2.1 (for Windows). On Mac, I guess the only solution is to change to another torrent client. Links here: https://www.bowiestation.com/faq2.php

On my PC, I am finding uTorrent is almost hopeless, but can recommend qBittorrent - this seems to work quite well.

Well, it is STILL an issue with older torrents and utorrent not accessing them, while working fine with new ones, but qBittorrent seems to be doing a mighty fine job!

Then it is either problems with uTorrent itself (as many observe with newer versions on Windows too) or some wrong configuration in the uTorrent installation or some system wide settings that is inherited by uTorrent but qBittorent uses it's own.

Anyway it works with qBittorrent, so I guess case closed?

Yea, I had problems a while ago with Utorrent when using private trackers (like Bowie Station), but it worked fine on Pirate Bay, and other 'open' trackers for whatever reason.
Anyway I switched to qBittorrent as everything works fine on all trackers.
Give it a try, it's interface is very similar to Utorrent.

I also scrapped uTorrent in favour of QBittorrent long since.
Connection issues all over the place.
