Hiya Gang! I've been a Bowie fan since 1971 and it's taken me all this time to find BowieStation. Please accept my apologies for my tardiness! I first saw DB at The Greyhound in Croydon, Sough West London in 1972. I had a ticket for this small 300 capacity gig, although there must have been a thousand outside who didn't. There were no seats in this upstairs performance space and I was fast enough to get 'front and centre' right before the slightly elevated stage. Just before the gig began a very attractive young woman (she looked like Marilyn Monroe) came out and knelt on the stage, and proceeded to chat with us all. I learnt later that this Blonde-Beauty was of course none other than Angie Bowie herself. David and the band were so close that night and the sound was deafening. It was, as the saying goes, 'a night to remember'. I'm 64 now and still worship DB as if I were a teenager. I miss him every single day, but thank goodness I was born at a time to experience his music. Bless you, Starman - wherever you might be! Luv On Ya! - Bowieboy1957 xxxx

Great story Bowieboy1957. I'm only a year younger and also became a hardcore Bowie fan in 1971. The only part where our stories diverge is that I never saw David on stage. My parents were strict and there was no way they were going to let me go to Detroit to see a concert. I had to experience him vicariously through the descriptions from my school mates who were able to go. Missing these concerts is without a doubt the reason I started collecting bootlegs. When I discovered bootlegs I was finally able to hear those shows and imagine I could hear my friends screaming in the audience.

Hi Bowie Boy, I was one of those outside! Didn't have much luck with Croydon Greyhound as went to see Siouxie and the Banshees there but it was cancelled very late due to problems with the stage. I did see Bowie at the Toby Jug in February 1972 though (and no, I didn't tape it!).

Have you seen the Greyhound lately? Very sad.
