Depends. The Leon suites is perhaps the most complete and the most finished. But it's not totally complete. And the remains are spread on various discs. It would be nice if someone with a lot patience could identify each of the remaining 'parts'. I'm too lazy 😉

AFAIK, Leon was condensed, rerecorded and remixed to make Outside.
There's out-takes from both go's at releasing it ?
The Leon Suites is someone's idea of what it might/should sound like.
I'll listen to the Brian Eno - or whoever does the whenever it's released if ever version.

The official FB Bowie page said the dance mix of Starman was unlikely to be released.
It made it to promo - which is official-enough for me.
Anyone cleaned up the Fun/Funhouse mixes ?

Though I am listening to Shilling The Rubes just now...

I think you are way off with your assessment - just listen on headphones and you will realise that this is a pretty much finished recording, just missing the final mastering step.

From a post on some message board, don't remember where (might even been here):

"I talked to one of the musicians who is on this and got a more complete story. First, these aren't outtakes at all, and second, they weren't initially intended to be a Bowie album.

The idea was to form a sort of supergroup behind Bowie and Eno, and record an album as a one-off project for that group. This is essentially that album.

So what we have here is a fully-realized concept album for a group that never came into existence.

It was then presented to the record company, who as we all know rejected it as "uncommercial." After that, Bowie used parts of it as the basis for an entirely new project, which became 1.Outside. So, had this been released, Outside would have never happened.

So, rather than this being outtakes from Outside, it's actually more true that Outside was based on outtakes from The Leon Suites, an album in it's own right.

There were five suites recorded for Leon. Two were deleted, with three receiving a final mix then being presented to the record company for release.

It's possible that some of the outtakes came from the two other suites, which themselves became outtakes.

And that's only talking about the Leon project.

When the record company passed on Leon, Bowie took parts of it and used them as the basis for 1.Outside. That project has it's own outtakes.

The confusion comes in because people fail to realize that we're talking about two separate projects, Leon and the later Outside. They tend to lump the outtakes from both together and call them all outtakes from Outside. Even this was called Outside outtakes, when in reality it's a finished album which, if released, would have meant that Outside would never have happened."

@earlmahagers: besides the Leon Suites there are various bootlegs with stuff from another source (or same source ) as the Leon suites. as the tracks have no official names and have different lengths it's difficult to find out what is redundant.
I have downloaded and listened to two torrents:
1) the Leon suites
2) something fishy
Much of the stuff seems to be overlapping but I'm not sure if everything on 2 also is on 1

Whatever version floating on the web you have.
I count six.
It is what some call a 'Fan Reconstruction'.
Leon became Outside.
Yes = they are both different - separate things... and the adverts will mention that v loudly should and when/if Leon - in whatever version/'s of that is finally released.
Maybe some 'speed correction' is all it needs.

On Conan O'Brien's TV show he clearly says 'the album of the game'.
I'm saving my pennies for that one first.

Found it !
3.37 GB of Leon Suites.
Six of them.
It's confusing these days.
There's 2 [?] called The Leon Suites (1. Outside Outtakes) and they have different length tracks.
Part of why, I gave up listening to them... :-@

There's bonus/extra tracks that I've not bothered to see if they are 'in' those files.
I'll wait for the official one.

It's an unreleased album that part of has leaked.
I knew there was out-takes from both it and Outside.
Until someone like Brian Eno mixes a finished version,
all these home-made affairs are just guess work.

Are there '1.Outside' studio outtakes anywhere?

I presume that the ‘Leon’ recordings have eclipsed those by being more complete, even though they are a (slightly) different project, and one that only partially overlaps with ‘1.Outside’.

I am very grateful for what there is from ‘Leon’, not the easiest listen, but wonderful to when you are in the mood.

The Elstree 1995 rehearsals are one of my favourite recordings from this forum, so I know that comes close, but studio sessions would be great to hear.
