I have generally avoided collecting live videos over the years.

I make some exceptions, but mostly my attitude has been they take too much space, the audio quality on FM and high quality audience audio recordings is such that I quickly tire of the sound on video recordings, and simply that I prefer listening to music rather than watching it being performed.

Now HD space is less of an issue, I am looking to try a bit more live video.

I already know that Tokyo 78, Dallas 78, Bremen 78, the Cracked Actor documentary are pretty watchable for obvious reasons.

Beyond that, and the official video / DVD releases over the years, I would be keen to gauge any consensus on the most worthwhile video recordings. Certainly, I am aware that from 1990 onwards a lot more Bowie concerts were televised, which will widen the net of what I might - and what others will - consider 'worthwhile'.

So, over to those here - what would you recommend?

Certainly where recordings where the sound is true stereo (i.e. with audible seperation) that tends to get me interested, but also watchability - good camera use, lack of fast editing and/or 'shake' - is key too.

Thank you - I will gradually try these.

I remember having Port Chester 97 on video back in the day and getting rid of it as I am very fussy about having stereo recordings, and certainly stereo TV was pretty commonplace by then. However worth a go, there might be different recordings from the one I had way back.

the great thing about Port Chester 1997 is that there's a pre-broadcast version on the tracker with extra songs and Bowie trying to fill some time during the commercial break.

Here's another vote for BBC 2000 (get the PAL version with PCM sound - all the NTSC are frame rate converted with odd audio issues)

I can do better than that - I can upload the ISO DVD image of it if it will help?
All I will need is a PM with your email address to send a download link to & I'll upload it.
It's the 4:3 PAL DVD with 16/48 PCM audio that is kinda aggressively handled, but the mix blows away what we got officially (for me, anyway).
I keep meaning to add in the 2 new tracks that have shown up on the official channel (Can't Help Thinking About Me & (possibly) The London Boys) but the BBC broadcast was in 4:3 and those are in 16:9 so won't match. Unless I mess with the Broadcast footage & see what the results are of course.
That said, video ain't my thing usually but I know a man whose 'thing' it most definitely is & will ask him.
But in the meantime, a PM with an email will get you the link to the BBC ISO.
Hey - my license fees helped to pay for it so why not!
