There is a lot of Beatles content in this post but bear with me.

For the Beatles documentary, Get Back, Peter Jackson (of Lord of the Rings fame) used a new technology that uses computer learning to identify and separate individual instruments and voices from an older mix or mono recording (Machine Assisted Learning or sometimes called De-Mixing). Using this, Peter was able to separate conversations that previously were unintelligible because of background noise. As a result new insights and discoveries were made that counter long held beliefs.

More recently, the same form of AI was used to separate John Lennon's voice from a cassette tape for the creation of the song Here And Now a few months ago.

I have always thought that when and if this technology becomes available to the masses we could use it to de-mix bootleg recordings or even commercial releases such as the Beatles live at the Hollywood Bowl where the original mix was marred by overzealous fans and other constraints caused by the limitations of recording equipment and methods of the time.

The video below shows that the technology is now starting to become public. Now shifting from Fab Four to the Star Man... imagine the improvement that could be made in some mixes where everything sounds fine except for one certain aspect that got buried in the mix... a distant vocal, an overly forward bass line etc.

I've just started to play with it but there is only so much you can do with the :30 seconds available in the demo mode and I'm too cheap to pay for a subscription but hopefully this is just the beginning and other versions of the tool will become available soon.

For me I would want to use it for bootleg recordings I tried a couple last night but it's no good for the ones' I tried.

It seems it has to be a clear recording where all instruments can be heard.

£25.00 for 500 hours seems to be a good deal.

What is the better one Prof. ?? you have mentioned before but cannot find the post.

there's quite a few
https://www.acapella-extractor.com/en/
https://vocalremover.org/
and more...
i typed in ''music file splitter'' in Google

you can only 'do' one track at a time [free] usually
or there's a time limit
but
there's paid for versions
one of them'll be what McCartney & chums used ?

I'm fairly certain McCartney & chums used the Peter Jackson software called Machine Assisted Learning.

“We devised a technology that is called demixing,” said Jackson.

For the beatles they likely trained the IA on Beatles songs to get better result.
Currently the AI tools don't make good enough separation. You can however change the volume of different tracks (like making the vocals more prominent) quite easely.

So sorry, but AI cannot do this all that well. It's still like trying to unbake a cake by separating out the eggs, sugar & butter from the mixture.
It's fraud & fakery, and should simply not be encouraged. (Why is it that in the world of 'art', fakes are called 'reproductions' or now when done to music 'remixes'? It's as fake as a trannies fanny!)
