This randomly fell into my recommended list a few days ago: a saga about a guy who get the negatives for the Dancing in the Street video and his story to restore it:

Flipping amazing amount of work done on this. (And after all that to get the brush-off from someone at the Bowie estate who evidently was unfamiliar with how celluloid film works!)

Anyway, here is one important fact that the restorer probably mentioned. I will repeat it here because it may be the most important fact of all:

There were 2 versions of this music video. At 1m 04s into it, one version has a close-up of David Bowie, one version has a close-up of Mick Jagger. This is the David Bowie one.

So my advisory is about the consequences of that. A consequence for what some might think of as the 3rd version: The comedic "non-music" music video that became internet-famous many years later for its groundbreaking use of foley sounds and voice actors gasping the lyrics. (The one with Bowie screaming when he leaps.) That funny video requires the Mick Jagger version. The voice actor voicing Mick makes a very funny sound when Mick's close-up happens. So if you were planning to paste the audio from the comedic version onto this new restoration (and admit you, you were or you were hoping someone would!) then one of the best comedic moments is ruined.

Official PCM mix
Printmaster Fullcoat Mag with Dolby A
Westside Studio Rough Mix

I haven't listened to them yet but I expect someone will and report back.

yes you are right at 1.55 you hear a woodblock one the pcm but not on the rough mix. Also the bass is much more on the front of the rough. (but that could just be me:)

nice mix.. i like the rough mix..

looked the 2002 mix of the ep.. and no woodblock either.

I didn't understand it until he explained in the video that it's gained incredible popularity in the past 20 years due to it being referenced on Family Guy (a cartoon based on references).  

The idea that people have spent the time since then re-creating the video is kind of on brand with the Internet. :D
