Is the full recording of the concert at the Boston music hall in 1972 lost to time? I read somewhere that they recorded the complete show , but we only have a handful of songs from it. I would really like to hear the 72 live version of Lady Stardust in official quality , but that remains unreleased.

There was a discussion about this some years back and I think the "proof" arguers won out that they only have those tracks recorded.
Or something like that.

It might be in the thread of this or the other Boston 72 show but it might have been on MWP.

That's upsetting :( It makes sense they'd only record those tracks but it would've been amazing to hear lady stardust!

There's an audience recording of it which is not bad, but not really for me. It's a Joe Maloney one - the guitars have tended to sound too quiet for me on recordings I've heard that he did. The irony is, the Boston 74 recording (yep, I know, two years later, but he recorded both of these Boston shows, and ones by other acts when they played Boston), the 'Subway' LP brought out the best in the later Boston Bowie show - the copying from tape to tape actually helped the guitar sound.

Anyway, as others have noted, the official recording of Boston was most likely deleted but for the handful of tracks we know about, the official line being 'the levels were all over the place'.

I would be surprised if it was not in the vaults somewhere.

Probably mis-labelled.

Remember, Warners put out My Death supposedly from Carnegie Hall.

Everybody said it was obviously from Boston (by comparing to the audience tape).

So the Boston show AND the Carnegie Hall show are missing.

This is Bowie. He kept EVERYTHING. His estate certainly has a copy somewhere.

Until then, we just have to wait a year or so for AI to fully restore audience tapes. It's not that far off.
