Hi everyone. This is a shot in the dark but I was wondering if anyone had a recording of Bowie's first concert in America in 72. I've heard there's a copy out there somewhere ? If by any chance someone has a copy would you be able to upload it. Thank you   :)

For decades it was rumoured that WMMS Cleveland recorded the first Bowie show in USA and broadcast it a while later.  Recently a tape of this broadcast was found and in fact it is WMMS broadcasting the Santa Monica 72 concert.
The show was also recorded in the audience by the same guy who recorded the 25 Nov 72 show in Cleveland.  But this tape has never emerged and it is very likely that he gave his recordings to Bowie.

I have read a post on a torrentsite by the taper of the both Cleveland shows in which he claimed he has  given the tape of the first show to a friend.

I think it was a post on DAD quite some years ago. The taper also wrote he he had lost track of this friend to whom he had given the tape of the first concert in Cleveland. A collector has contacted the taper and got an unedited recording of the second Cleveland show. An unedited recording of Width of a Circle has been shared on one of the Bowie forums by this collector.

To my knowledge, Cleveland Music Hall, Voom, and Ziggy's Invasion Of America (all 25 Nov 72) contain the complete  concert musically speaking but some inter-song tuning and faffing about was removed to get it on a single 700Mb/80 minutes CD.

The Width of a Circle has been edited on Va Va Voom. I remember hearing the complete version from a mp3 dl.

That sounds interesting... you didn't save that particular mp3 by any chance?

No, I didn't because it also had  parts of the songs performed before and after TWOAC. I didn't keep it because I expected the complete unedited show would turn up sooner or later. Even though it was an mp3 the sound quality was better than the Va Va Voom cd. Something the owner of the mp3 also claimed, because it was from a direct copy of the master tape.

The unedited version of Nov. 25th will be uploaded in the BOWSTAT series. It contains Ode To Joy intro and outro, encore call, and about a 20s longer version of TWOAC.

I'm too busy this coming week, but next week I will have plenty of time for Bowie.

Kiwikid: I couldn't find anything from HC, but if you send me your files, I can see if I can manage to make them work.

Some info from an info file for Va Va Voom I found:

Additional Info
Greetings from Alaska !!!  I was the person who recorded Bowie in Cleveland, Ohio Nov.25, 72 that the CD "Va Va VaVoom" was
taken from  I did not authorise the reproduction but I was surprised the producers of the CD cut a lot out of the actual
recording to fit on the CD.  I had the Sept 22, 72 Show (first in America) but it is missing.  The Sept 22, 72 show was at
Music Hall-Cleveland, OH.  The Nov.25, 72 show was at  Public Hall -Cleveland, OH.

Thanks to Joe Ray for the additional info

WOW!

Hopefully the raw version is going to be shared in the standard cd audio format as well.

Jan-Erik has included One of the quotes of the guy who has taped the concert I have been referring to.

The source is a 16 bit recording and it looks as it will be posted as 16RAW (CD version) only and no remaster. The recording is 82:52 min, so to make it fit into a standard CD something has to be removed (like the Outro). As soon as some artwork is ready, it will be posted. There will also be 4-5 other releases next week with remasters from Learm.

There are 40-50 releases ready (as RAW only) that needs artwork, and if anyone have artwork skills and wants to participate please let me know.

Ready to press 'download this torrent'!

Maybe you can use this pic of the ticket of the actual show for the artwork:

just unpackaged SJA vol6 to have a good check of Va Va Voom, against my 22nd?, one I'm having problems are all .flac files in sja are .fla and were playable same amount of tracks all same size on both so drive in saturday is in there which was written after first show but strange thing all last file modifications are exactly 7hrs apart my problem one 6/8/2004 4.20am SJA 6/8/2004 11.20am for audio files artwork different times but still 7 hrs, problem one can't open audio or art but fingerprints is japanese writing and info file is mix of numbers letters and charters like computing code so I think might be first run of Va Va Voom has the problems it's got and then got out as 22nd

have another may be B57's?  Music Hall 25th so hoping date was wrong but was Venue so if you have that one from around november 2012 has incorrect venue in info file should be Cleveland Public Hall
