There has been started a petition in Berlin to name the street where Bowie lived in the 70's in David Bowie Street.

Here is the text of the petition (translated from German, link: https://www.change.org/p/bezirksamt-berlin-sch%C3%B6neberg-david-bowie-stra%C3%9Fe-in-berlin?recruiter=42265652&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_facebook_responsive&utm_term=des-lg-share_petition-no_msg&fb_ref=Default):

"David Bowie has lived at the Hauptstrasse (main street) in Berlin-Schöneberg from 1976 to 1978. During this time he produced 3 important albums.
He is a Rock and Pop icon. There are many main streets in Berlin but not yet a David Bowie street. Hundred thousands, or even millions of people
share memories with David Bowie's music.
This extraordinary artist deserves to get a special honour in Berlin."


One of the obstacles to have success with this is that in Schöneberg new streets will get only women's names. If this can be overcome the new street name can be inaugurated in five years (sic) earliest by law.
Five Years has some meaning in relation to Bowie but couldn't they do it earlier?

I think this should be a must for every Bowie fan.

I'm not sure if the man himself would want it. He wasn't that hungry for nation-wide/state appreciation (even turned down the knighthood).  At this point I'm just curious what's gonna happen with it (if anything at all...)

Ok, but I think that's more a thing for his admirers and this has nothing to do with a knighthood.
It's just a very nice kind of appreciation.

Although this would be a nice gesture, I think a blue plaque or similar next to the apartment (like Heddon St) would be better. The original name of the street is legendary with fans so renaming it completely wouldn't be what I'd do... but what do I know?!

The check at the moment if a commemorative plaque will be placed outside the house where he lived.
This will be a short-term measure.
