We know that originally, Bowie was to write the music to "The Man Who Fell To Earth," but that eventually, Nicholas Roeg asked John Phillips to do so. From what I know, the only portion of what Bowie wrote that's ever been released officially is "Subterraneans" - presumably rearranged and with different instrumentation on "Low" than originally planned. Does anyone know if actual recordings of Bowie's original score and/or themes and/or demos exist? If so, have they ever circulated? Thanks!

I remember years ago seeing an article about releasing the complete Man Who Fell soundtrack along with a bound version of the screenplay.  It would be nice to get the music.  I have seen mp3 versions of the soundtrack floating around the cyberverse, but I have no idea how authentic they might be.  Some of the music was included on a john phillips reissue years ago as well.

The John Phillips soundtrack that made the film was released, I think, but I would practically give a limb to hear the Bowie demos.... I'm keeping tuned here....

With the soundtrack coming out I was looking at the version I had made myself some years back, made from looking at what lists was out there.

Mine looks different than the one coming out, and the one coming out looks like it is still not complete, just a fast look, it is missing stuff like the wale song and ocean sounds.

This made me think of if anyone here has a good list of what was in the movie and the order it appeared in the movie? I am itching for making an as complete as possible version, the cover is already half done  :D

This is the new official track list:

Poker Dice - Stomu Yamash’ta
Blueberry Hill (Single Version) - Gordon Jenkins Orchestra And Choir and Louis Armstrong
Jazz II - John Phillips
The Planets, Op. 32 Venus, The Bringer Of Peace - Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and George Hurst
Boys From The South - John Phillips
33 1/3 - Stomu Yamash’ta
Rhumba Boogie - John Phillips
Try To Remember - The The Kingston Trio
Mandala - Stomu Yamash’ta
America - John Phillips
Wind Words - Stomu Yamash’ta
Jazz - John Phillips
One Way - Stomu Yamash’ta
Space Capsule - John Phillips
Bluegrass Breakdown - John Phillips
Desert Shack - John Phillips
Memory Of Hiroshima - Stomu Yamash’ta
Window - John Phillips
Alberto - John Phillips
The Planets, Op. 32 Mars, The Bringer Of War (Excerpt) - Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and George Hurst
Liar, Liar - John Phillips
Hello Mary Lou - John Phillips
Silent Night - Queen’s Hall Light Orchestra & Robert Farnon
Love Is Coming Back - Genevieve Waite and John Phillips
The Man Who Fell To Earth (Demo) - John Phillips

This is what I had gathered:

Make The World Go Away - Reeves, Jim - 2:27
Blue Bayou - Orbison, Roy - 3:48
True Love - Bing Crosby & Grace Kelly - 3:05
Stardust - Shaw, Artie And His Orchestra - 3:47
Hello Mary Lou (instrumental) - Phillips, John - 3:08
(Now And Then, There's) A Fool Such As I - Snow, Hank - 2:30
Love Is Coming Back - Waïte, Geneviève - 2:29
Poker Dice - Yamash'ta, Stomu - 18:05
33 1/3 - Yamash'ta, Stomu - 7:19
Mandala - Yamash'ta, Stomu - 12:50
Wind Words - Yamash'ta, Stomu - 6:45
One Way - Yamash'ta, Stomu - 11:54
Memory Of Hiroshima - Yamash'ta, Stomu- 8:38
Distant Whale -Watlington, Frank - 3:55  (I just picked one song from Songs Of The Humpback Whale)
Blueberry Hill - Armstrong, Louis - 3:21
Try To Remember - The New Kingston Trio - 3:32
Parker's Band - Steely Dan - 2:46
The Hissing Of Summer Lawns -Mitchell, Joni - 3:01

There are a number of websites which deal with the tracks used in the film including...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Fell_to_Earth
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074851/soundtrack
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=91968&archive=0
http://reelcool.blogspot.co.uk/2007/10/man-who-fell-to-earth-lost-soundtrack.html

Some time ago the soundtrack forum on the Spin The Blackest Circles site (http://www.spintheblackestcircles.com/bb/index.php) discussed the soundtrack in great detail and one of the posters had made his own 2CD version with some very nice artwork. Sadly, that discussion seems to have disappeared!

Apart from the main pieces (Stomu Yamashta, John Phillips) there is some disagreement over which tracks appear and who the actual performers are - "A Fool Such As I" being one such example.

What I would really love to see is a listing of tracks and the corresponding scene from the movie!

Incidentally, with reference to the original poster - Hoosac92 - I believe that 2 pieces on Low were originally intended for the Bowie soundtrack - "Subterraneans" and "Weeping Wall."

From what I can gather, only two people have the original demos of 'TMWFTE' soundtrack that the Dame intended to use, and they are the Dame himself, and Paul Buckmaster, who recorded it with him. I would say, with 100% certainty, that no one, absolutely no one, else has a copy, so those that say they do are bullshitting. PB himself has said they are not up to studio quality either. If they are going to see the light of day, then either a 'Low' 40th anniversary set, with the usual and already mixed 5.1 release by TV added plus the soundtrack, may be released next January, or the next box set, which no doubt will cover the Berlin years in greater detail. If we don't get hem then, then I don't think we ever will.

Although the soundtrack is a lovely addition to the collection, I'm annoyed it's incomplete, the track 'Bryce' (the piece of music played when Bryce is getting in to his car and eyeing up the student which I've always wanted) is missing, only to find out it is included on the cd in the Blu ray box set....they don't half milk us for what we've got.

It is disappointing that the official OST for TMWFTE is less than perfect with it's curious omissions, different versions and even additional songs which are not in the movie. I hope someone can put together a definitive compilation which fill in the gaps.
MossGarden, it looks like you have already done good work compiling your own track list.

One further song in the movie which I have not ever seen listed elsewhere is 'Dirty Dirty Feeling' by Elvis Presley -  a snippet of which is used when Newton is cracking up in front of his TVs.

Also 'Farewell To Vienna' by Anton Karas:
