Since a few days I can't reach Bassman's David Bowie site, I always get the answer : "Timeout, server not reachable...."
Who knows anything about Bassman's, are there any problems ore is it a specific problem in Germany for example??

little mistake in the title, should be "Bassman's", sorry

No need to be sorry Davesolar, you're right!  :)

It seems like the ISP algonet is down.

I googled yesterday to see if Algonet is gone
, but i didn't find any information. Looks like Algonet is/was a small ISP.

If anyone has any contact details for Stefan (Bassman), please send me a PM.

I think I found his FB profile, but I'm not totally sure since it is many with the same name.

Thanks so far , Jan Erik, I already thought I was blocked from my provider.
When gone, really bad news...    :-(  :-(

You could always use a website copier & download it. So you will always have it to hand

I've got linux as my OS & use WebHTTrack You will find in the software manager

I'm sure there will be a windows equivalent

Message from Stefan today:

Quote:

Hi Jan
My ISP have problems with the server which my site is put on. They have been working on the problem but don’t know at the moment when it will come back on again. I will get a text message as soon as its back up again. When I do I’ll inbox you.

I thought Bassman's site would be archived, but it isn't.
It looks like the ISP wants to thwart attempts at copying or archiving:

I just sent Bassman a message asking if it is coming back. He promised it in January, but 5 months later it is still not back.

I received a response from Stefan. After the old server was taken offline he didn't have a copy of the website. He is still waiting to receive the files from a backup from his ISP.

When he receives the files, he will put the site up on http://www.davidbowie.se/

Not sure it's a good news. The URL existed at least since 2009 with the same picture and I don't trust ISP for the backup :-(

Images used on Bassmans site were actually hosted on www.davidbowie.se (and they are still on that site).
The site looks just the same with the same "Coming Soon" message that has been there since 2003.

Algonet was a small ISP that was bought by a bigger ISP, then bought by an even bigger one.
The server that hosted Algonet was very old and was retired in January, so it is not actually a backup, but rather a direct copy of files on the server (if it still exist and the ISP hasn't thrashed it.) I believe there where only a few other webpages on the server besides Bassmans site when it was turned off.

Only time will tell if it comes back online, but Stefan has at least been promised the files.

Thank you JE. The site, for me, was a real goldmine of information and so I hope that it can come back and, if he wishes, be updated as well.
