Hi everyone!

I was putting in order all my Bowie outtakes and I decided to do a chronological list based on the CD infos
for make some clearness about outtakes, dates, titles and, obviously, about the entirety of my collection.
If you find any missing piece in the list, or any imprecision, please, help me completing it, in order to have
a complete list of the outtakes and make order in our archives!

There's the PDF file:
https://rp1fqw.bl3302.livefilestore.com/y3m_yzltplRxSVKRQppwUt0FjG7_Qb2d9PGaMibIMMJd_iXYhHO_VaE2HnK0lpvPJlLqQHpaJdZcj_bSMKJAoFBlsuMVi4OMkMIl_vwbj9XUukcIDTG1qNZSJPt6wzpfWmCAxlzBvFuyz6QYRs4gOr-iw/Bowie%20Studio%20Outtkes.pdf?psid=1

Thank you all!
Jaime

Impressive! One note so far though, that "alternate mix" of "All the Madmen" is definitely a fake. From Illustrated db Discography:

Quote:

A faked outtake can be found on the Todos Los Locos bootleg single (ESP-601 SGAE/VIC M.8.153-1983), re-released on the MissingLinksOneZiggy (Icon One) CD.

Thank you libertine90!

So, if these ALL the released outtakes, I can also organize them in a serie of compilation CDs for BowieStation, right?  :D

Great list

Some comments:
- The Arnold Corns MD and HOTY have been released several times (5 years boxset in 2015 to name the last time), they are not (imho) outtakes nor demos.

- To be Love...that's but no way considered Bowie stuff yet, maybe he was playing drums...amd would be 1971

- Silver Treetop School For Boys: there is a Bowie demo...I checked my old files, found it...Bowie’s demo was recorded ca. April-May 1967 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF5sEP1kmaw
That is not one of the Riot Squad versions, cause in those Bowie doesn't sing lead

IdbD
Silver Treetop School For Boys (Bowie): demoed in 1967 and long believed to be lost. An Essex Music acetate was offered in 2004 on eBay, but was not sold. A recording of this poor-quality acetate now circulates among collectors. The 2012 Riot Squad compilation The Last Chapter: Mods & Sods contains two versions ('Silver Tree Top Jam' and 'Silver Tree Top - School for Boy's'), probably recorded at rehearsals, which do not feature David on lead vocals. The Toy Soldier EP (Acid Jazz AJX329S) contains a 1'53" excerpt of the 'Silver Tree Top Jam', now properly titled 'Silver Treetop School For Boys'.

- Are you sure you have Shilling the rubes in lossless? As far as I know, only some inner-titanium-collector-circle got an mp3 before the reels went back to Bowie and also in Drexel University...maybe I'm wrong (Marcio knows better this story). Same goes for some of the other samples of 1974 in the PDF

Check here the post by the owner of the reels
http://www.network54.com/Forum/8980/thread/1428072888

I was asked by his label to stop the sale, and when I refused they put in an offer for the tape. The people at Drexel were saying it was fake which is why I put out these snippets. They were left red faced to say the least and Bowie was livid they took such bad care of their archive. The two others I have won't be put up for sale following the grief this one got for me

- Fame (Unedited Flute Mix), Maybe 1974/1975
I remember there was some debate, until the flute player posted in IdbD forum.
It's in the boot
David Bowie - Open Up & Dusted Down The Trident Tapes Vol.1

That's what comes to my mind at a first glance.
I could be wrong for sure.

Great effort.
Maybe give time to other members to write more feedback about the best sources, etc.
And sure, thee is a thin line sometimes between demos-outtakes and rarities-versions (and I'm not fan of leave OOP stuff out of these kind of compilations)

sure man, I only know what you have posted about, and let's hope someone free STR as well the other YA reels...and thanks for post about this issue.

BTW, I suppose an Excel archive, could be of help to give some order about sources, lossless/lossy, if in circulation/not, etc.

I received an incomplete "Silver Treetop" demo some time ago, in decent quality, from an unknown source which I'm assuming might be the 1967 demo in question: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7kkAwvNQjaaNmhGdV9yazVyUFk

I think the list is a great first draft needs refining, there are some officially released tracks in there such as the 1965 demos from Early On but not other officially released demos such as Ziggy Stardust.

If the aim is to not include copyrighted material, quite a few tracks will have to come out such as the above demos, Little Toy Soldier demo, the Occasional Dream and Space Oddity "bedroom" demos, the Eight Line Poem from BOWPROMO, Seven demo etc.

There are also quite a few in there that are not generally considered genuine; much of the Arnold Corns "sessions" material for instance, nearly all of the 1972 tracks, and the only studio White Light / White Heat available are BBC takes.

The Hours 'demos' that circulate are not demos, they are identical to the album versions but just mastered differently. My guess is that they were finished mixes provided to the Omikron people before the brickwallers got hold of the tapes.

Some things double up, I've Got Lightning and Lightning Frighting are the same track, there is no demo circulating. You've also got the "officially released" issue as the Ryko version missed the first 30 seconds or so, meaning the only way to hear the whole song is via bootlegs but it's still an officially released track.

I assume you've left out the Tin Machine 2 outtakes on purpose but having included tracks by other bands (Riot Squad, Feathers, Mott etc) these should probably be on the list.

As mentioned above, Silver Treetop demo is missing, as is the When I'm Five demo and the Ching A Ling extract with Tony Hill. The Bolan and Cale demos should be included and if Man In The Middle is allowed with just Bowie on backing vocals, probably the Cool Cat and Fire Girl demos (although the latter is now officially released).

Dead Men Don't Talk is a studio recording and there are other Outside bits an bobs as well as the "Leon tape".

The cover of Lennon's 'Mother' needs to be in there and the demo of What's Really Happening and the alternate take of New Kiiler Star.

And there are a few things that have popped up recently such as the Wild Things demo and for completeness the Rio Grande impersonation session.

There may be other things i've missed, this is from memory.

JanErik,

Perhaps once the released stuff and fakes are removed, a BOWSTAT release may be in order?

...and then my mind split open.

Here's a pretty good article that gives the lowdown on Bowie's 60's demos:

That is a really good article.
One thing - it forgot to mention the third version of "John, I'm Only Dancing".
In addition to the original single version (acoustic guitar) and the Aladdin Sane out-take (also available on the 2005 EMI compilation "The Platinum Collection" amongst others) there was a remix version of the original acoustic take.
