Just want to share a story from last night about a hacker messing with me and my son :)

Last night my son was playing and chatting on a game called MovieStarPlanet. That game has in-app purchases to get extras, and they can cost quite some money. A week ago his mother bought him a 1 week VIP membership with her Visa and forgot to remove the account details from the Google Wallet afterwards.

He chatted with someone that told him that he could give him a free VIP membership and all he needed was his email address. He gave him his email, and since my son had a very simple password (his name and year of birth) the hacker didn't have much problems with getting access to his Google account.

The hacker then emptied his mothers bank account with in-app purchases. Luckily everything was bought from just one place.

Late last night I was looking into what happened, and I also changed his Google password to something hard to guess/crack. I also filed a complaint with MSP.

Today I was taking a closer look at my sons Google account, and while doing that, I was thrown out.
The hacker was back again, and this time he changed the accounts password. Earlier today, my son had changed the password again to something more simple...
The hacker also changed the recovery email.

After an hour the access was re-instated after quick service from Google.
I then logged in to his account and browsed through everything, and changed back the recovery options and again a new password.

Then I came across the options for lost tablets and phones, and there it was the hackers tablet, located in Serbia.

Now it was time for revenge :)

First I wiped out all data from his tablet. Then I locked it and added a welcome message with "F*** Y**!", with a password containing of about 30 random characters.

His mother had to cancel her Visa card, but will surely get her money back.

He is reported to Google and MSP and will probably have his accounts there blocked, and finally the only thing he has left is a blocked and wiped tablet.

At least I hope that my son had his lesson about giving out contact details to strangers and the importance of a good password.

I hope others here also can learn something about the importance of a strong password.

It's good to turn the tables.

Though you should probably change your IP address (unplug your router for 5 or 10 minutes and plug it back in)!

It just makes you realise how vulnerable we all are in this world full of technology. When it's used for the right reasons it's fine, but there's always vindictive, sad people, with nothing better to do, than make other peoples' lives a misery.

I hope that you get full compensation from your wife's bank.

I had a really bad experience this year on Facebook, when I joined a David Bowie Memorial Group, firstly once you had joined, you had to sign an online petition to have a memorial put in place in London for David Bowie, which I wanted to do. So I signed the petition, and then said on Facebook what I had done. The person running the David Bowie Memorial Group, then requested that I make him a friend so that he could see that I had signed the petition, which I then did.

I read some messages online after that, about the person running the group, that he was not who he was making out to be. He sent me a nasty message a few days later, and had made threats to other people online. Then suddenly the group was no longer, and all the members from an official David Bowie Group, including myself had to leave and join a newly formed group. It turned out that the guy running the David Bowie Memorial Group was a hacker.

How can someone take such a famous and lovely person's name in vain, after his death, and do this to his fans. There are some very sad people in this world, with no shame or conscience.

After the Facebook hacking my e-mail account was compromised, and showed that I was sending lots of e-mails out to other members of Facebook, so my Outbox was becoming full, and because each e-mail was not being sent for some reason, I was receiving the same amount of Daemon Failure Notifications in my Inbox. I had to change my password a couple of times to rectify the problem.

There are so many scams online now, it's unbelievable. You have to look twice sometimes at times, because people are trying to make out they are from your e-mail service provider, and say that you need to login and put your password etc. in, otherwise your e-mail account will be shutdown.
