Here’s the explanation and the workaround (third post down) which imo is too difficult to bother with. Easy solution is update to a newer OS.

This has happened a few times but as they say the old versions still work. I had the issue with Transmission,  so the old versions are out there.

If you have to remain on an older OS, then qBittorrent is a good option. The older versions of it - like version 4.1.5 for El Capitan - work with Bowiestation. https://www.fosshub.com/qBittorrent-old.html

This is what I use - the OS on this machine is, and will never be changed from - Windows 7 for a number of perfectly valid reasons, not the least of which is that despite the often quoted BS about it being EOL, Microsoft are still issuing security updates for it (I got one on my DAW only last week).
I have 3 'EOL' OS:
XP - this is not advisable but it still functions flawlessly, it just won't run anything coded in the last 5-10 years but I require it as no newer OS is capable of DVD-Audio authoring with the MEI tool I use.
W7 - 2 of these. One is my main DAW, and changing this to W10 will cost me thosands I don't have as the mobo is a high powered server grade board as it is a brute of a system. I still have not found the outer edges of it's performance so why should I get a 'newer' OS that I loathe?
Yes, I do have a W10 setup because I have to work with video files, and I need up to date tech for this that simply will not allow itself to be installed on W7.

But upgrading an OS to run Internet stuff?
NEVER - my advice is as above - use Qbittorrent as it works just fine

As others have said get Qbittorent. I had a similar problem with utorrent a while back. For some reason it worked fine on public trackers like PBay etc,  but just stopped working with private Trackers like the one here on BS. I got advice from someone on the tech help forum here and switched to Qbittorent and it worked fine.

I agree qbittorrent works well but I found the older Utorrent versions from 1.6 and 2.1 included work well too.
