Traders Little Helper:

http://tlh.easytree.org/

Traders of lossless compressed audio files (e.g. ape, flac, mkw, or shn files) have to handle a lot of different applications to decode, encode, create/verify checksums, fix sector boundary errors, or create torrent files. Moreover most of the tools used are command-line programs requiring a deeper knowledge of how to use various parameters. Trader's Little Helper bundles the most important features of those applications in one single easy-to-use frontend.

A Handy compact player that will sit in your system tray  I've found was a replacement for winamp don't be fooled by name AIMP3, AIMP is player name version #3 plays all sorts of files including ALAC,FLAC,APE,WAV,CDA,AAC,AC3,M4A,KAR plus more but not .shn files I last went looking for plugin a year or so ago so may have now, It also does streaming radio capture, decoder and converter (though I still use TLH as my decoder & converter)

http://aimp.ru/

edit: sorry that is in russian but best place to get from so you don't get all the 3rd party hidden malware and a fake version. Info on Wikipedia

Format Factory for converting files. I initially got it to convert FLAC to mp3 for exporting files to my portable mp3 player but now use it for video too.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/format_factory.html

PS:the website hosting this, Major Geeks, is also pretty cool.

Cheers

For audio - Audacity.
For playback - Audacious.
For video - depends what you want to do.

http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/

DVD videosoft free studio comes with a range of programs converters, editors, downloaders
youtube tools = youtube download (output AVI, MP4, WMV, original or eco quality) youtube to dvd converter, youtube to mp3, youtube uploader, youtube to iphone
other downloaders Instagram, Dailymotion, Free Coub, NicoVideo
just a matter of copying url pasting in program window waiting for it to link and then hit Download
18 programs in studio was 50 separate but any 1 program now covering what a few were doing or instead of the complete studio can just get the programs you want, Studio used to be 50 so there's plenty more programs you can get on their site to go with it specific to phones, tablets or game consoles. There is a torrent dowloader in studio not sure what it's like

Not sure what the BBC format is in, but don't think this will do Vimeo (ones I've tried locked by owner so can only watch on his web site)

Adware, but just a small band across bottom of window and when you close may ask if you want to upgrade to premium and when installing a couple of 3rd party to reject

Hi kiwikid,

Trying the videosoft free studio, but making slow progress.  After a lot of false starts, have finally managed to get the screen video recorder to capture the vid content, but it doesn't seem to have captured any sound.

Am I missing something really obvious??  Any hints appreciated!

If you're using Firefox there are a number of addons that will capture video from any site that has video. They just add a download button to the video, and download in a variety of formats.

Hi Steve

sorry for lateness of reply
I just use the Youtube dowloader, copy the url then paste using the paste button on app window then wait for the url to change to the link showing a thumbnail and video details then download, I've had about 90% sucess rate,  I've never used the screen video capture so not sure how that one works

had a play around with screen video capture today and went through forums on site it only records the picture found only way was under program options record audio from mircophone that seemed ok only tried on laptop using it's mic so mono, haven't got 2 mics to try stereo

Steve try this:

http://keepvid.com

copy the video link from YouTube or other site and paste it in the box at the top of main page. select 'download' button TO THE RIGHT OF THE LINK BOX  (stay clear of the ADvert download buttons scattered elsewhere on the page.

onthe next screen select the quality of the vid and RIGHT click your chosen quality selection. then select SAVE LINK AS. and rename the file to your own requirements, remembering to add '.mp4'. the file will then download to your default download folder / location.

Works for me.

Cheers

Dave

Don't forget also that you can do the CD Rip & convert to FLAC all in one go from EAC, and if you set it up correctly it will also add the tags to the FLAC files for you

Foobar 2000 for playing any music file, great Customable interface too, also great for converting to various lossy and lossless formats, also reads cue sheets and can edit cue and image files, which I prefer to individual flac files. One image file with a cue sheet, less messy.. ImgBurn for DVDs burning and creating, also gives options for layer breaks on dvd9. Audacious and deadbeef on the Linux platform.
