what's the consensus between the 2 ? the first wetransfer link has some slightly longer tracks.
The pitch correction somehow different. Is this one more "accurate" ?

I'm currently upgrading the two versions and I'll share my findings and results presently.

IMHO - The audio sounds better in the higher resolution edition for starters - it sounds more clear, crisp and full overall. I'm guessing it has some mastering EQ applied as it has a different sound than the 1644. ( Yeah, I know it's 44.1. )

As it turns out, after checking the speed/pitch of both, they are virtually identical in the amount by which each track is off-speed/pitch in each respective edition. I did make corrections of some kind to the pitch of every track. The difference in total time between the two respective sets is basically the editing of silences and some tracking of the respective presenters of each of these 2 editions.

I'll have links to my finished files when I get them FLACed and loaded up to a cloud of some kind for y'all.

Thanks once again to those who provided these great sources. Hopefully you're reading this and approve of my improvements to come.

I'm looking forward for your version. You will share it on the tracker, or put a link here ?

the first remastered/tracked version I grabbed was thanks to paulybauls; then there is the version forum DBWW (which seems to be 24/44Khz so I guess a pitch correction and perhaps some EQ has been applied)

thanks to Steveboy for sharing this gem.
I can't stop to listen to Shilling The Rubes, Young Americans take 3 (I only had a snippet of this take) and the gorgeous Sweet Thing.

but the slight vinyl surface sound is because this has been released (?) or a vinyl ? : https://www.discogs.com/release/22603364-David-Bowie-The-Gouster-The-Sigma-Sound-Sessions
Whilst I understand the scratch sound (which is very discreet for an acetate) for the Ava Cherry Sigma Acetate, because it is an acetate, I don't understand well the lineage : reel -> tape ? -> vinyl : so this has been pressed on vinyl ?

Now, there was some humming (apparently from studio sessions) by David Bowie singing a little bit the melody of "Can You Hear Me" on People On The Streets silver b00tleg. This was followed by the "commonly" b00tlegged "Can You Hear Me" early mix/take. But this short studio snippet does not belong to this take.
Any hint about this studio chat?
Any there is still the studio snippet of this early take of "John I'm Only Dancing" (incomplete)

No - I believe it appears to be the same set as what's on the LMA but reordered so that the 3 YA tracks are together and in the first 3 positions in the presentation. If I'm wrong about this I'll gladly stand corrected. That was not the order of the original Sigma tape, as we've previously seen.

However, definitely do stay tuned for some very big new proper speed and tuning fixed releases of the various editions I've found. Steveboy will handle it. Very soon.

:-)

"The Gouster" is on the tape boxes shown in the book included in the Who Can I Be Now box. Several other potential titles were mentioned during the gestation of the project - if I recollect correctly davidbowie.com ran a competition to identify the odd one out in a list of titles.

As far as alternate takes, versions & mixes go there are several.Win, Fascination & Right all had alternate (incorrect) mixes used on the Ryko edition of 'Young Americans' (RCD 10140) and this error was fixed on the AU20 'Golden Years' Ryko re-remaster set in addition to the bonus tracks 'Who Can I Be Now?', 'It's Gonna Be Me (without strings)' and the single 'John, I'm Only Dancing (again). In addition to these there is still another version of 'Fascination', 'After Today (version 2)', 'I'm Divine', 'It's Gonna Be Me (with strings)', plus the version of 'Fascination' used on the Ryko 'Sound & Vision' compilation set (which is also included as an 'alternate ryko mix' on one of the bootleg sets and is identical to the incorrect version on the first Ryko CD of 'Young Americans' - RCD 10140)This whole saga really is worthy of it's own, dedicated 'expanded edition' especially in light of the 2007 remix by Tony Visconti with the same tracklisting as the Ryko editions but with still different mixes. He also did the album in 5.1, and as far as I am aware this was never released on vinyl and was only available for about 5 minutes before going OOP.

Neil,  your post is really interesting.  I generally like the origjnal Ryko discs but their first Young Americans is a big fail because of the wrong mixes.  I have heard differing accounts of whether the AU20 really does have the corrected mixes, or not.I would be tempted to get the AU20 if you (or anybody else that has it and has compared it) can definitely confirm it is different.  I know that Jeff Rougvie has said it was corrected but then I have seen other people just say the mixes were the same. The AU20’s are really expensive and I don’t want to buy one just to hear some mild EQ changes. Thanks for any guidance or confirmation that is possible.

Drop me a PM and I'll get in touch off forum - cannot share things officially released, or the forum gets a DCMA Strike. The versions on the AU20 are definitely back to the correct mixes, however.

The Ryko, as you know, were remastered from the tapes by Dr Toby Mountain, and the AU20 are totally different re-remasters, if you will - again by Dr Toby Mountain. It's not just EQ differences either.

PM me

a new CD is coming "Sigma Sound Sessions - reel 2" :

back artwork here :
https://u5q4u9i6.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/david-bowie-sigma-sound-session2-1.jpg

I don't remember if "It's Gonna Be Me" without and with strings is available on the official "The Gouster" era box set.
Or appeared on one of the old Ryko CD.

The thing is : do you think that this CD label is releasing the reel 2 from tape source and not a "rip-off" of the vinyl (thus a needledrop)?

if this is the case (tape source-> CD) this would be more interesting and an upgrade rather than reel->tape->vinyl (the one we got thanks to you)->CD

The same "lineage" upgrade things appears with the Pink Floyd so called "Extraction Tapes" when the one piece Shine On and Animals rough mix first appeared on vinyl, then from tape source on CD.

New Order and Aretha Franklin's labels both released 'expanded' albums with all [or most] of the commercial 12'' Mixes/Edits.
SDE et al were up in arms and they were swapped out for master-tape sourced versions.

It's Gonna Be Me (With Strings) is on -
David Bowie - Young Americans (2007 - EMI) (DVD PCM 48kHz, 24bit Stereo)
[That's what it's called in my files.]

The other mix is on The Gouster.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Can_I_Be_Now%3F_(1974%E2%80%931976)

Right (Young Americans Sessions Version)/(Demo)/ (alt. mix, late '74) is the same as the Gouster one.
Only it hasn't been speed corrected ?
I kept one of them.
:-@

There's a v. collectable disco album by Rinder & Lewis, that the Russian bootleg is sourced from master-tapes.
But the official reissue, used vinyl rips.
All depends on access or how mug they think the fans are ??

ps
This one ?
https://u5q4u9i6.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/david-bowie-sigma-sound-session1.jpg?x50976

The whole thing is what you already have on a new disc ???
