I found nice quality Soultrain footage in this torrent:

I remember som years ago, there was a DVD with some hidden extra footages, including a much better quality of the performance of Golden Years. Different source, with a clock up in the corner.

Anyone remember this?

I recently took a crack at trying to "remaster" the "Golden Years" performance. Used the recently aired version on Rage and color-corrected and tinted; the first part is cropped to remove their logo and text. So my copy of the Ryko promotional VHS arrived yesterday and I'm already working on my remaster for you all. First question: I was working on and cleaning up the audio and noticed that, and from what I would really assume, that this was originally broadcast in mono. Should I retain that audio or would a new stereo dub of the song re-synched be more welcome? Just trying to gauge public opinion here

Am I right in thinking he is miming (lipsynching) in this performance? If so then a dub would be better as it's not even a live vocal anyway. But it is up to you really : )
Is the video quality a lot better than the Rage version? I hope so.

perhaps they used tapes derived from a film copy for the Rage transfer or interlaced it weirdly? Is there film grain? A film-like motion?

The Rage version looks like a film transfer of a video source. But it doesn't have the detail or dynamic range of something originating on film. It looks like a second generation copy. And the aspect ratio is slightly off in the Rage version too. I imagine the Ryko version will look a lot better.
