Yup, agreed. Bootleg I'd say...

"Product Description

RADIO BROADCASTS FROM THE 1995 OUTSIDE TOUR The concert featured on this remarkable 2CD set finds the entourage playing at The Riverport Amphitheatre in St Louis, Missouri, on 11th October 1995. With the entire gig broadcast by local FM radio, the sound quality is second to none and the performance - by both artists - among the finest of the whole tour. Not previously released, this rare recording is finally available and will prove an enormously attractive release, allowing fans to relive an essential event in the careers of both artists. "

I've downloaded this show several times from different sites each claiming to be the best.  Either listed as a soundboard or FM it is always in mono.  Does a stereo version of this exist?  Is it a soundboard or an FM broadcast?  Why would either be in mono?

so this is where I would go :)

A lot of live Concerts are mixed down to mono so depends at what place in the mixing console the recording device is plugged in.

Interesting, didn't know that. Is there a reason (technical or otherwise) for this?

I think because in a large hall the audience are spread right out so would not really notice a stereo affect unless they were sitting dead central, that said on stereo versions of the outside recordings things like space boy, hurt and outside do have a panning effect going from left to right.

By coincidence i have just this second put down after reading  a 1996 copy of a USA mix magazine talking about the outside tour from a technical side  the sound engineers say the main difference between the NIN set and Bowie set is that NIN used live monitors which pick up more audience noise and actual volume from around the venue and stage But Bowie's set used in ear monitoring which at a guess would affect the soundboard recording and the might well have been taken from the in ear monitor mix.,, which is maybe why at times this recording sounds a little flat with very little audience noise.

It has always bugged me that this is a mono recording for my own pleasure i run it through audacity's pseudo stereo pluggin which adds a slight delay between the 2 channels and gives it a sort of stereo effect and a little more reverb, i then ran a low pass filter on one channel then a high pass on the other and got quite nice results.

Whatever, it's a stinker.  First disc is fine, but then as the Amazon reviews say, it goes pear-shaped on disc 2.  Skips a plenty during Andy Warhol, a little dodgy during Breaking Glass and We Prick You, and Under Pressure has surface noise that ruins it.

IMHO it doesn't make a blind bit of difference that it's also MP3-sourced (but I just checked on TAU), as it's a loser anyway.

So the short answer is stop debating it - it's not worth it!!

Don't blame me, I didn't do it!

Steve. Any chance you could post a couple of samples for me. One from each disk.
