This is neither an error nor a suggestion so much as a site-related query: recently, there have been a lot of torrents of HG material posted with the label "new". My query, such as it is, is to ask in what sense are these torrents "new"?

Are they an upgrade, or do they differ in some way from the other material in the Hunky Geordie Tapes?

Steve originally posted the HG tapes series at MWP except for the last volumes which were originally posted here. When re-posting the series here, the first volumes were fixed for SBE errors, and the quality was not changed in any way.

For a few concerts Steve also replaced the original versions with upgrades, and where he has done that, it is written in the info files.

Since many members had problems finding shows they wanted that were part of the HG tapes, we also decided to upload each volume independently. With that we are nearly finished. All HG shows that are uploaded independently are the same versions as what is in the HG Tapes series here on BS.

When you see a "new" sign next to the torrent, it is a new torrent since last time you looged in.

As much as I applaud the time and work that goes into them, the only thing I like about the HG tapes... is the artwork. The shows are mostly unlistenable.

High standards, but entirely your choice!  It's quite deliberate that you can choose to snatch the artwork and leave the music (and to this end, I've now upped the artwork to Bootlegzone if anyone finds that easier).  TBH, I feel more aggrieved when I see new art created for HG recordings!

So much material is available that there is plenty of scope to pick and choose what to seek out, download and squirrel away.

FWIW, my personal preference is for decent quality audio (even if my ears don't have the range) so I tend to look for soundboard and FM material. However, there may be other material available that isn't as good in terms of sound quality, but may be significant for some other reason -- such as a particular show, or something in the setlist or something in the performance itself.

Storage is cheap, so it's easy enough to download both the good quality audio material that sounds great as well as the material that might be played only once or twice but fills a gap in a personal collection.

Hey i wasn't knocking the HG tapes just i tend to download soundboard.. fm and pre-fm. So no need for the attack fellas. They provide a valuable resource for people who want everything.

I was just saying the artwork is wonderful and i have modified several for my own use on other recordins that feature no or poor artwork.

No offence was meant.

I do remember that some old audience recorded punk tapes (Circa 77 or so) seem to sound better when listened to in the next room! now that's poor quality ;)

The HGSS vols  I'm Uploading at Moment are out of the dust bin abandoned projects saved and shared steve23yh as seconds some are collector grade only so those faint of heart that can only just handle audience I would listen to the sound samples to get an idea maybe go into next room use wall as a filter

We all like soundboard and fm but to limit yourself to that I feel your missing out on some awesome shows. Take Another Stage for instance loads of fan noise and girls talking at the beginning but for me it makes it better. you close your eyes and your there
